Math Questions

LI: to learn how to cooperate to achieve something
In our Thinking Teams we cooperated by doing Math Questions together. We had a bunch of facts about the ASB Marathon in 2017. We used those facts to make questions for ourselves to solve. There were a variety of facts from the ASB Marathon. The facts told us how many marathons there were, how many entries, how many countries competed, how many charities and much more. One of the questions my Thinking Team made were "There were a total of 13,898 entries. There were a total of 10,500 bananas. How many people did not get a banana?".

We solved the question by adding by place value:
Strategy:
13,898 - 10,500 = ????
13,000 - 10,000 = 3000
800 - 500 = 300
98 - 00 = 98
3000 + 300 + 98 = 3,398
13,898 - 10,500 = 3,398

There were a total of 3,398 runners who did not get a banana.
