Venn Diagram

LI: to find as many similarities and differences as you can between the video and the text of “The Beginning”.

To continue our learning of Matariki, and the Maori story of Creation our task was to create a Venn Diagram. For our Venn Diagram we compared the differences and similarities between the Video and Written Version of the Maori Creation Story. A Venn Diagram, is a diagram showcasing the differences and similarities between two different things.

Afghanistan Brochure

LI: To create a brochure advertising a truthful visit at Afghanistan.

Our reading focus was around Afghanistan and creating informed opinions on a text or informative article. The text we explored was focused around attracting tourists despite the recent dangers and attacks that have been occurring in Afghanistan. Our creative task was to construct  an informative brochure that could persuade foreigners to visit Bamyan, Afghanistan on an escorted tour. We read through the article and shared our thoughts using information that we knew about the topical issue. We used different reading comprehension strategies to understand the text in a more clear and direct way. We used questions to help us understand the text better, skimming and scanning to evaluate the text even more and summarising in order to retell the text with our own form of comprehension. I found this task fairly easy because I am familiar with creating persuasive brochures that advertise an area, and I was able to use my prior understanding of a text to make and share my formed opinions with others.

Directions Te Reo Maori

LI: to learn more about Te Reo Maori

For Te Reo Maori we were learning about our directions such as our rights, left, middle, up and down. We had to make a DLO showing the directions that each fruit were in. Such as the banana being in the middle, and the apple being on the left. But we had to state the directions of the fruits in Te Reo Maori. It was really interesting because we learnt new words in Te Reo Maori, and we were able to learn how to form a sentence.

ASB Getwise (2)

LI: to learn about how to save our money

Marlon from ASB came again to teach us about saving money by teaching us following the ASB Getwise Programme. We got into our thinking groups and we learnt about how to save money by playing these games. We first wrote down the strengths we all each had in our groups, and then made a business idea out of all our strengths. My group was Sports Fashion, so we made sportswear for basketball. We then had to present our business idea similar to the show Shark Tank, and some groups went up and presented their ideas to the class.

Sir Isaac Newton

LI: To use your smart searching skills to find out who Sir Isaac Newton was and how his work connects to simple machines

For Reading we were learning about Sir Isaac Newton and his discoveries in groups, to help us with our researching skills and our collaborative skills. For our DLO we made a interactive DLO showing each of Newtons discoveries as well as explaining why hes so important in modern science. It was really fun doing this cause I got to learn about his disoveries in Gravity and inventions in Mathematics. It was really fascinating to see all of the accomplishments he's made in his lifetime.

Leadership

Our Inquiry objective was to think and learn about the four important qualities of a good and reliable leader and what leadership looks like. In our groups, we started by talking about the four qualities of a good leader and the definition of each quality. The four qualities of a good leader are: leadership, responsibility, being a role-model and team work. One we defined each quality, we wrote down as many words as we could that related to the qualities of a good leader. After this, our group came together to write a 25 word paragraph that talks about the qualities of a good leader. We used the words that we picked out from the list to create this paragraph. Finally, we created an infographic poster (using a google draw) to  define the four qualities a good leader should have.

I enjoyed this challenge because I got to collaborate with different people.

Operation Christmas Drop

LI: to write a summary of the story behind the Operation Christmas Drop in your own words.

The Operation Christmas drop makes a big impact to lots of communities around the globe, especially the remote islands off of Guam. This was a massive impact for them as they got the time to enjoy themselves, it also makes them happy how America had the time to do this while being busy with a lot of things. For the last 68 years the men and women of the US airforce who are based at Andersen Airforce Base in Guam have been using a pilot training drill to drop much needed supplies to the people who live on the 60 remote islands that surround Guam. We think that Operation Christmas drop is an amazing organisation of companies that give struggling communities a Christmas experience that they don't get to experience yearly. We think this way because they have done great things to help children and adults in remote islands that don't have the basic needs for a striving community.

DARE to make a choice

LI: to learn more about the dangers of Drugs and Alcohol

As we continue with the DARE Program we have gone more in depth about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. We started off by trying to identify if some drugs are Illegal or Legal. We then later ranked them in Harmful to Most Harmful. After we talked about the classifications of drugs and the consequences and risks of being in possession or manufacturing the drugs. After we looked at some scenarios and tried to find out the penalties and consequences of the actions they have done. The DLO we’ve made showcases the learning we have looked at and we have discuss what we learnt.

Whakatauki

LI: to learn the language Te Reo Maori

This week is Maori Language Week so we did a task for Maori Language Week. Our task was to pick a "Whakatauki" and explain the meaning of it. A Whakatauki is a proverb which is a piece of advice said in a kind of metaphor. The whakatauki I did was "In a withered tree a flower blooms". Which means whenever you are in a dark place there is always light and hope.

Te Reo App

LI: to learn the language Te Reo Maori

For Maori Language Week we embraced the Maori Language and culture and did Maori Language Week and Te Reo Maori tasks. One of the tasks were to make an app. In the app I did with my partner we made a quiz. On each quiz we had three questions and we had four topics on our Te Reo Maori quiz. The topics we did were Technology, Days of the week, the Time, and Greetings.

Maori Language Week History

LI: to learn about the history of the Maori Language Week

This week is Maori Language Week so we were learning about Maori Language History, and Te Reo Maori. Maori Language Week is the week where we learn and celebrate the language Te Reo Maori, which is a official language in New Zealand. In my DLO (Digital Learning Object), we showcased the language Te Reo Maori & the history of Te Reo Maori. We showed the timeline and milestones of the language of Te Reo Maori.

Maori Name Places

LI: to make a map showing the maori landmarks

For Maori Language Week we were doing tasks that helped us embrace the Maori language. Maori Language week is the week of celebrating and learning Te Reo Maori, which is a official language in the land of Aotearoa, New Zealand. The first task we did was the map of New Zealand and all the cities with Maori names. We explained the meanings of each of the Maori names. In our Map we show both the North Island and South Island.
