Te Reo Maori

 LI: To identify the different objects through Te Reo Maori.

For this weeks Maori task we were challenged to find the different amount of objects there were on an i spy sheet. The challenge was that all the objects names were in maori so we were to translate them and find out how many there are of that object. On the left of the DLO it corresponds with the list on the right. Porohita  13 and so on.

LI: to learn more about Te Reo Maori

To continue our learning with Te Reo Maori we learnt the Te Reo Maori words for these different cities, towns and landmarks in New Zealand. Our task was to first match the Te Reo Maori and English words with each other, and we then later had to mark where the places were on the NZ Map. We did cities like Christchurch and towns like Kaikohe and we varied with each place.

For Te Reo Maori we were matching English names with their Te Reo Maori counterparts. So we matched the English version and Te Reo Maori version of a name. Before that we were continuing our learning in Te Reo Maori conversations, we learnt different sentences and different words to help us support our conversations in Te Reo Maori. t

Directions Te Reo Maori

 LI: to learn more about Te Reo Maori

For Te Reo Maori we were learning about our directions such as our rights, left, middle, up and down. We had to make a DLO showing the directions that each fruit were in. Such as the banana being in the middle, and the apple being on the left. But we had to state the directions of the fruits in Te Reo Maori. It was really interesting because we learnt new words in Te Reo Maori, and we were able to learn how to form a sentence.

LI: to learn more about the language Te Reo Maori

For Te Reo Maori we were learning about our directions like our lefts (maui), right (tatau), up (runga), down (raro) and middle (waerungi). We were learning it by using a picture of a object that is in a certain category such as stationary or fruit and we then make sentences about which object is in which direction. For example if the apple was in the left or right, or a banana was in the middle or up. 

Countries in Te Reo Maori

LI: to expand our vocabulary and knowledge in Te Reo Maori

For Te Reo Maori we were learning about different coutries and the names of them in Te Reo Maori. The countries we did were the countries of the continent South America, and countries a part of the United Kingdom. We were learning these different words with the help of our teacher Whaea Ode, and gave us quick activities to do in Te Reo Maori. For example having a small conversation with eachother. 

Maori Place Names | Te Reo Challenges

For the Te Reo Maori challenge we had to write the Maori Place Names. On the post we had to make a map showing each location in Maori, and translate it back into English. In my map all the locations I have pinpointed were in New Zealand, cities like Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Gisborne. Each place I pinpointed has both the Te Reo Maori and English translation. It was really fun doing this activity as I got to see many cities of Aoteroa, New Zealand.

For Maori we learnt that the Te Reo Maori translation of English names has a similar sound to it. So we tried to translate them and match them together. We did this and it was really cool to do, because regular names were translated into these Te Reo Maori translations.

For our Te Reo Maori Challenge we had to make a family tree. My family tree expanded really big because both my parents have a large amount of siblings. It was really cool to see most of my family in one big place

LI: to learn about Te Reo Maori
For one of my Distance Learning activities I did some work on Te Reo Maori or Maori. For this task I learnt some Te Reo Maori phrases on or about the weather. The phrases or sentence say something like " The sun is shining". In my DLO (Digital Learning Object), I wrote down the Maori phrase, then the English translation, and then a picture of what the phrase is talking about.

We did our task which was completing a sheet. Our sheet was Wiki Ono. The sheet Wiki Ono was just translating a bunch of words. But before that we were playing around with Poi Poi's and doing actions with them and even did a song.

We did our task which was completing a bunch of sheets. Our first sheet was No hea koe. Lastly we did Ko wai koe which is translating the maori phrases into english. For example Ko wai koe means "Who are you?".

We were learning how to speak Maori. Saying, who is your friend, what is your name, and more stuff like that. We then moved onto our task which was completing a bunch of sheets. Our first sheet was No hea koe. No hea koe means where are you from. We had to write the cities and suburb that we were from. But we had to write them in Maori. Then we did the countries we were from and had to translate those countries to Te Reo Maori. Lastly we did Ko wai koe which is translating the maori phrases into english. For example Ko wai koe means "Who are you?".

Our first sheet had god from Maori Mythology. We had to match the god with what they control. For example if we had Papatuanuku we would match it with Earth Mother. Then the next sheet was Kotahi, which was a bunch of Maori words we had to translate to English.

We first got into groups and in our groups we talked with Whaea Ore. We got taught a bunch of Maori questions. We got taught "Ko wai to koe?" meaning "Who are you?". "Ko wai to ingoa?" meaning "What is your name?'. "Ko wai to hoa?" meaning "Who are your friends?". Then there are a bunch more. We then had an activity to do. We watched a video in Maori, and we had to translate what they were saying.

We did a word find on a bunch of Maori words like Moana (meaning ocean, or deep sea), and ika (fish). We then had to make a poster on our likes, and we had to write them in Te Reo Maori. We also read a maori Story.

The word for seasons in Te Reo Maori is Tau. Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter also have their own words in Te Reo Maori. We used a website called "Te Ara Encyclopedia" to learn about the seasons and the events happening in the seasons.

Weathers in Maori

Matariki is Maori New Year. The whetu (Stars) disappear in August and the whetu reappear in June. The whetu are the Seven Stars or Sisters.  We read two stories that were related to Matariki. We then had to make posters. There were two we had to pick from, counting the stars, or a poster about the weather in te reo maori.

We firstly watched a video about space. This was a story about how the stars, sun, and moon came to be. We then read a story of the exact same thing. We then had to make a slide about the Patupaiarehe answering: What are the patupaiarehe? What is the appearance of the Patupaiarehe? What were they like? Lastly Where were they found?

Whaea Odie read us a story about Mt Manganui. It is a story about how Mt Manganui got in its current place. We then searched up on Google Maps where Mt Manganui used to be and its trip to its current place. Next we made a Google Document of what we would say in Maori to introduce ourselves. Like Ki Ora.
