LI: To learn about water safety
This week we were learning water safety with life jackets. We first had to get into a line. It was kind of like a starfish except we had to hold onto each other's life jackets. We started swimming around and had to turn around and change directions. We then started swimming around to get warmed up. After we got into circles and huddled up and had to bring our knees in. Once we did that we had to have the smallest person to go into the middle to keep them warm. We did the help position which was doing the star fish and putting our hands up while yelling "HELP!". We then learnt about the HELP acronym which was also another position. The acronym was Heat, Escape, Lessening, Position. We had to put our knees up as high as possible to our chest and we had to wrap our hands around our legs. We then did the pencil step. We had to have our hands touching our shoulders, and the other wrapped around our neck. We then had to take a step in the pool and go down straight, the position was helping us not to lean forwards or backwards. It was great because we learned new skills and it could potentially save our lives in the near future.
