For Swimming we were continuing on learning about Water Safety, learning different strokes. We started off doing Streamline as a warm up, and continued doing different strokes. We then did strokes but these strokes helped us manage our breathing, and let us feel less tired. It also helped us lessen our head movement, and restrict your neck movement. It really helps, and another thing we did was starfish but we had to only kick to strengthen our calve muscle.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Mrs Fisi'iahi.

HIIT (Wk 3)
LI: to be active physically using the actions of the Maoris
For HIIT this week we were doing excercises focusing on the four sides. So we did turning squats, turning star jumps and many more. Our other excercises we did was regular squars, and then side lunges. We did two rounds of these excercises and it was really fun doing. We had people running out of breath trying to get a red heartrate. It was especially fun because we were able to do this with our friends and mates.
Our second session for the week we did the same excercises, it was another fun session but this session we did three rounds and this excercise really tired all of us out.

Silver Attitude - Represent the school at an inter-school competition
LI: to represent our school at an inter-school competition
For one of our Silver Attitude activities we had to represent our school at an inter-school competition. Today we had a Football tournament. We had 5 games for the whole day. It was really fun playing and we were able to grab some wins.
Our first game was against Stonefields, and we had a toughloss 0 - 1. But we were determined to improve, and prove that we could play our bests.
Our next game was against Glenbrae. We were playing hard, and got a better result. As this game we had a draw, 1 - 1.
Our third game we went against Sylvia Park. This game we were doing much better, passing the ball and we were able to take the win. 1 - 0.
Our second to last game we went against Panmure District. We tried to keep the same energy as last game, and were trying to work harder as a team. We were lucky enough to take the win again, and celebrated with a score of 1 - 0.
Our last game we went against Panmure Bridge Team B, who were the other Yr 7&8 boys team. This game we tried hard, and went fast into the game trying hard to get a good record. After all the games we had played we improved drastically and won the game 4 - 1.
At the end of the day we had 3 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw.

Kiwisport Reflection: Cricket
LI: to learn the basic skills of cricket
Our teacher was Brian from HPPC who came here to teach us some cricket. We first learned our bowling skills by getting into groups of 3 - 4 and try to hit the wicket or the cones. If we hit the cones we put the cones on the wicket and if we hit the wicket we remove a wicket. We also learned this technique from Brian which was to have our arm pointing at our target, and when we threw the ball we would step forward so we would have more power. We then went onto our batting skills, we got into our groups again. In each group we had one batter who would hit the ball, and the the others who were the field team trying to gather the balls then put them back. While the field team is getting the balls the batter has to do as much runs as they can until the field team put the balls back.

Footvolley
LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. The task was to write about our favourite game. Write down what its called and how to play it. The game could be any type of game like a card game, outside game, video game, board games and tons more. The task was based off of Caine Monroy who made a arcade from his dad auto parts store using cardboard boxes.
My Favourite game write now is Footvolley, which is combining the aspects of football and volleyball. There is a net like volleyball. Like volleyball the ball can't touch the floor, but instead of using your hands to pass it over you use your feet like football. The game is mainly played with 2 players on each side.

HIIT Workout
LI: to work as hard as we can, and see our personal results
For Kiwi sport we did HIIT, which stands for: High, Intensity, Interval, Training. We had heart rate monitors to see our heart rate, and we had to work as hard as we could to get out heart rate up. We had three exercises to do.
Mountain Climbers is getting in a press up position and trying to put your knees to your elbows. We then did press ups. We had to have our backs straight the whole time. We also had a bunch of ways to do push ups. Knee Push ups, and a One Legged Push Up. Lastly we did pull ups. We had lied on our back and had to pull up with a bar.
Lastly we did a squat challenge. There was a song that kept saying up and down. So we had to listen to the song, in our squat position go up and down.

Sailing
On the 30th of April me and a bunch of other students from LS1 went down to Okahu bay to take part in sailing. We firstly got taught by one of our Instructors Steve how we put the boat together. We were all shocked at how easy it was. In each boat was two people, one person controlled the rudder (to steer the boat), and the other controlled the sail (to control the boats speed).
We sailed from ASC all the way down to Mechanic Bay. It was a long journey but so much fun. On the way back our Instructor Justin told us to do the Titanic Challenge. It is when one person would go to the front of the boat, while the other person was controlling the boat.
We then went back to shore to eat lunch and got back into our boats to the water. We were trying to get as much toys thrown into the water by our Instructors JR, Justin, and Steve. We then capsized our boats and tried to get back in.
Thank you Rotary for sponsoring.

Fabulous Ferns
LI: to learn about the Ferns
This week for one of the Summer Learning Journey activities. One of the most common plants in New Zealand is the fern. It is a symbol for New Zealand. You can also find pictures on sport teams uniform that have the word or the fern on it. The activity was to find three sport teams that has the word fern in it. We also had to put in the uniform. I like the Silver Ferns the best because it is simple but also cool.

Athletics Day
LI: to be athletic
Today on Friday we had Athletics Day in our school. I was in Group A which had Team Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. So the first activity we started on was the Dancing Activity. In the Dancing Activity people didn't dance much, until the boys in the groups starting dancing.
Next we did the Egg & Spoon Activity. So we had a obstacle course we had to do while we were holding an egg on a spoon. The first obstacle we had were cones. The cones were placed straight but had spaces between them. So we had to zig zag around the cones. Next we had was a chair we had to go all the way around then, the final obstacle was standing on one leg for 3 seconds. Then we had to do that all over again by starting from the end and doing it backwards. It was all the colour teams from Group A versing each other. Sadly the Red Team lost but we still had a lot of fun. But the Yellow Team won.
Our third activity we did was Long Jump. So how it worked was we had a run up, and had a cone, then we had to jump. Then we put the cone where we landed. So when I jumped I landed pretty far so I became first place. I kept the reign of being first place in the Red Team. But not far enough for my team to be first.
Our fourth activity was Ultimate Frisbee. But we didn't have a Frisbee. So we had beam bags. So we had a goal, and we had to throw as much beam bags in there possible in three minutes. So we got split. So it was Blue vs Green, and Yellow vs Red. Yellow went first so they started to throw the beam bags. They managed to get ten in three minutes. When my team which is the Red Team went we managed to get twelve in three minutes.
On our fifth activity we did Rob the Nest. It was really tiring. So in each team there was one tagger which they could tag people and freeze them there. The only way you could free them is by the team member tagging their knees, and double high five them. So no one really won because everyone did so much.
Our sixth activity was Sponge Relay. So we had another obstacle course we had to do. So first we had to jump on our sacks, and get onto our buckets. Then we get a sponge. We run and have to go under a pole, then jump over a rope and put the sponge in the water. Then we have to go back by going from the opposite side.
Our seventh activity was Discus. We had three targets. One was a cone, wicket, and a big stick. We had to throw a hula hoop and make it go through them. The cone was the closest, so it was worth a point, wicket little bit further so two points. The big stick was all the way at the end so it was worth five points.
Finally our last activity was Surf Relays. So we had a bunch of people, laying down looking at the opposite direction of their target. There were three beam bags, and there was a person who had to clap the clapper. When that person clapped we had to run, turn, and go get the beam bags. If you don't you are eliminated. Then goes down to two, then one beam bag. Each team had to verse their own teammate. Then the winner of each team verses each other
Then in the afternoon we had the relays.

Cricket
LI: to learn about sportsmanship
Today I went to cricket with the PBS cricket team. We went on a bus to the big field. the Yr 5 and 6 got there own field, and the Yr 7 an 8's got there own field. I as a Yr 5 was first going to go against Pt England. We went fielding first and lost by just a couple of points. Then next we were against Tamaki Primary and we lost again by a couple of points. The after that we got a hour rest and got to practice in a net where the batter would be at the end of the net, and the bowler would bowl it to him. When we got to eat a lot of food and practice we went to our last final games. We were going against Stonefields twice, well they had two group's of Yr 5's. We lost the first one because they were to good and to fast. The second team was as good as us and they one by two points! So then we ended it and went back to school.
