LI: to find the Highest Common Factor

 

For Maths we were learning about the Highest Common Factor. Firstly a factor is a number that times a certain number. So the Highest Common Factor is the highest factor that the two numbers have in common or share. Our task was to explain what a Highest Common Factor was and also to explain what a factor was. In my DLO it also shows an example of what a Highest Common Factor is. 

Lowest Common Multiple

 LI: to find the lowest common multiple

For Maths we were learning about the Lowest Common Multiple. Firstly a multiple is a number that can be divided or times by a certain number. So the Lowest Common Multiple is the lowest multiple the two numbers have in common or share. Our task was to explain what a Lowest Common Multiple was and also to explain what a multiple was. In my DLO it also shows an example of what a Lowest Common Multiple is. 

The 3 Laws of Inertia

LI: to learn about Inertia

                          

This week we learnt about Inertia, Inertia is a force of physics. There are 3 laws of Inertia. The three are Inertia of Rest, Inertia of Motion and Inertia of Direction. Inertia is the tendency to resist a change of motion. You experience Inertia all the time, for example when in a car and the car suddenly stops you jerk forward because of the change of velocity or speed. For this activity Lukah, Haylee, Sakina, Pouvi and I worked collaboratively to create this DLO. Something we found interesting was that Inertia was an everyday thing we experienced but we never really noticed.

Why is it important to make wise choices?

Do you use drugs? Do you know the effects it could cause? Drugs are a dangerous substance that are neither food, water or oxygen but can give serious damage to avid users mentally or physically. Drugs are a serious problem around the world and have had a massive effect globally.

As a result some people take them to feel good or to satisfy themselves. People are led into the darkness of drugs by growing up around them, or because of friends, therefore it is something they do to be cool or to be in with a group of friends. This is called “Peer Pressure”. Consequently they get addicted to these drugs, and crave more. These drugs affect us brutally, they affect our physical and mental health. For instance some people steal and on the other hand they work for people who will pay them money so they’re able to buy drugs. In spite of this, drugs are not all bad. In fact they help people relieve pain, help with medical problems. 

Furthermore, this is why it is important to stay away from drugs or to make wise choices. A silly choice you make could ruin your reputation or life, and you might end up without a job, end up in prison, or worse, death. Above all, people have to be informed to make wise choices, because these drugs not only affect you but the people around you. Your family could be saddened about your addiction, or they might end up joining you. Would you want that for the people you love?

Facts and studies show that a person in a family or group of friends that is addicted to drugs affects the group mentally but also distances them. Can you imagine that? Having your family and friends fall apart because of your addiction?

LI: to use transitional vocabulary

For Writing we were practicing using transitional vocabulary, by writing explanations. Transitional Vocabulary is like the cause and effect, but the effect part. Transitional Vocabulary are words like: therefore, because, as a result, and for instance. An explanation is a type of writing that is a formal writing that explains how or why something works. The structure of an explanation is TIIC, which stands for: Title, Introduction, Information, and Conclusion. Our topic for the explanation was "Why is it important to make wise choices?". We first planned our explanation, and then started writing. 

If I was Prime Minister?

If I was the Prime Minister?

This task was to think if we were Prime Minister what would we do. If I was the Prime Minister of New Zealand I be focusing on the Economy which I think is great for the country because during the Pandemic many people lost jobs or business people had their businesses going down hill. So I think it's good that they’re trying to bring back the Economy. Since I think Economy and Immigration are important, I think the Economy should be handled first so immigrants or refugees have an easy lifestyle in NZ, and also can easily flow into how the economy goes in NZ. 

Which political party would I vote for?

LI: To decide which political party will get your vote by making an informed choice  

To decide which political party I would vote for I read a summary of the policies each party wants to introduce. Should they win the election and the right to form a government to run NZ? Doing this allowed me to make an informed decision. If I was 18 I would vote for Labour because they are focusing on the things that are happening around the world and in NZ as well as the future for generations to come. This means if Labour won the election in my electorate Shirin Brown would be our member of parliament and Jacinda Ardern would continue as the Prime Minister of Aotearoa, New Zealand. I found out that the Labour Party New Zealand is the oldest political party of the country. 

DARE to make a choice

LI: to learn more about the dangers of Drugs and Alcohol

                         

As we continue with the DARE Program we have gone more in depth about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. We started off by trying to identify if some drugs are Illegal or Legal. We then later ranked them in Harmful to Most Harmful. After we talked about the classifications of drugs and the consequences and risks of being in possession or manufacturing the drugs. After we looked at some scenarios and tried to find out the penalties and consequences of the actions they have done. The DLO we’ve made showcases the learning we have looked at and we have discuss what we learnt.
