End of Summer Learning Journey
LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. For this activity, we reflected on our experience with the Summer Learning Journey programme this year. On our blog we had to tell which activity you enjoyed the most, which activity you enjoyed the least, three things that you learned while completing the programme, what changes/improvements you would make to the programme for next year.
My favourite task was probably the Choose your own, because we could pick one of our favourite sportsperson, or entertainer, or politician and more. My least favourite task is really nothing. I've enjoyed every single task on the Summer Learning Journey. The first thing I've learnt is that there is a ancient way to navigate around the sea which I thought was pretty cool. The second thing I've learnt is that Climate change is starting to affect people, and the earth. Lastly I've learnt a lot of things in different topics. I've learnt things in sports, entertainment, technology, politics and more. I wouldn't really have anything for an improvement for the the Summer Learning Journey. I think its good already.

Text Graphic
LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. For this activity, we had to choose our favourite inspirational quote from this website. Then we had to create text graphic on that inspirational quote. On our blog, we had to share our text graphic and underneath it, explain what it means to us.
The quote I picked was from Albert Einstein. I really liked this quote because to me it is saying work hard and you'll achieve anything. Whoever puts you down or demotivates you, you just have to push through.

The World Of Hip Hop
LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. For this activity, we watched this video of the Royal Familys award winning performance. On our blog, we had to write a review of The Royal Familys performance. We had to talk about the dance, dancers, costumes, and the music. We had to write down what we liked, didn't like and what could be improved.
I think the dance from the Royal Family was awesome and very hip hop. The dancers are awesome and very talented hard workers. Their costumes I think is pretty cool because there all kind of matching. The music was also awesome because there was a bunch different songs mashed into one. I really liked their costumes because their all matching and it kind of gives it glows. To be honest I liked everything and I don't really think they have anything to improve on.

Street Art
LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. In 2011, the city of Christchurch experienced a huge earthquake. A lot of the central city buildings fell down. It takes a long time to rebuild a city, and there are areas of Christchurch where buildings are still damaged and need to be rebuilt. Street artists in Christchurch have seen this as a chance to create artwork that helps to make the city beautiful again. You can see lots of amazing street art in Christchurch at the moment! So we went on a site that shows the street art, and the task was to pick two and write down the similarities and differences.

Tapa
LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. The task was to make a tapa, and the write down and describe what each part of the tapa means, and then post a picture of the tapa. A tapa is a cloth that has different patterns on it which also have a meaning. Many Pacific Islands have their own version of the Tapa Cloth. In Tonga it is called the ngatu, in Fiji - the masi, in Niue - the hiapo, in the Cook Islands - the tapa, and in Hawaii - the kapa.
The big star in the middle represents my country Burma, the reason the star represents it because on the Burmese flag there is a star in the centre. Then the triangles on the outside of it are gates from God, who is protecting Burma.

Brand Names
LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. The activity was to read this article about where some famous New Zealand brands got their names from. Brand names are very important to companies as this is how they are known. The task was to tell how Twenty Seven Names got their name. We also had to tell whether we think this is a good name for them, or if they should change it to something else.
Twenty Seven Names Brand was originally called Loves Lies Bleeding in 2006 but they renamed it when they found out it was copyrighted by a US Company. So as a homage to the 27 people who supported their business along the way they've called it Twenty Seven Names. I think the name is really cool because it has a meaning behind it.

The ghost try to possess the kids and one of them got possessed. The others don't know one of them did. They successfully get out while the possessed kid stays in the house. Girl Power
LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - maker. The task was to write about a role - model we know personally or someone who is famous. The task was based off of Jessica Mauboy and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa who are both phenomenal singers. They have both inspired young singers nationally and internationally.
The person I picked is Michael Jackson. When he was young he was born into a very poor family with over 10 kids so they were struggling in a lot of ways. But that didn't stop him from showing his talent. He was a record breaking artist. He broke many world records, sold many albums, has been the best selling artist and so much more he's achieved in his life. Even his siblings are now living successfully. So not only did Michael Jackson go from zero to hero but so has many of his siblings.

LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. The task was to pick my own scientist, technologist, or inventor to talk about. I had to write down their name, a description of what they do, and an explanation of what they have done to change the world.
I picked Madam C.J Walker who was one of the first self female millionaires. When she was young she was the first in her family to not be a slave. Before she was born President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. So she was a free citizen of the USA. But even though she was free her family was poor and her parents died when she was only 7. She then lived with her sister and worked, but never could go to school. When she was only 14 she got married and had a daughter, but sadly her husband died. She then started experiencing scalp disease which was itching and loss of hair on the scalp. She then actually started experimenting different hair products to help with her scalp disease. It actually worked and she started selling it. Then her business grew and grew.

My Favourite game write now is Footvolley, which is combining the aspects of football and volleyball. There is a net like volleyball. Like volleyball the ball can't touch the floor, but instead of using your hands to pass it over you use your feet like football. The game is mainly played with 2 players on each side.

Print Prosthetics
LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
The task was to watch a video on how prosthetics are made from 3D Printers and then write down what I learnt, and what surprised me from the video. The task was based off of Chuck Hull who was the first person to create a 3D Printer. A 3D Printer is a printer that prints layers to make a 3D shape from a computer.
What Did I Learn: I learnt that people are creating prosthetic limbs at a very low price to help the people who can't afford the regular costs that are usually thousands of dollars
What Surprised Me: What surprised me was how it could be designed, the designs of these products kinda of look like what superheros would wear so the boys like the designs.

Tiny House
LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
For this task we look at Tiny Houses, which is essentially a house that is smaller. Tiny houses are about 100 - 500 square feet. We then watched a bunch of house tours on the tiny houses on a site. So the task was to write about if we wanted to live in a tiny house and why. The task was based off of Michelle Dickinson who is a Nano - scientist, who is a scientist who works on small things. She also does amazing shows on science around schools in New Zealand.
I would live in a Tiny House because it has all the things people have in a regular home. Like furniture and the essential items. You can also find creative ways to save space. Like in one video the stairs were also a drawer, and the bed was a wardrobe. You just lift the bed and you have your clothes. Its also easier and quicker to get around.

Like in one video the stairs were also a drawer, and the bed was a wardrobe. You just lift the bed and you have your clothes. Its also easier and quicker to get around.
Coding
LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
For this activity we gave coding a try. We went on a Coding Site and it had a bunch of different levels on it. The higher the level the more difficult or harder it gets. On our blog we took a screenshot of the completed shape we coded, and underneath the shape we gave our opinion on the site. The task was based off of Ada Lovelace who created a series of algorithms (instructions) that a machine could use to compute (calculate) difficult maths questions.
Overcoming the Odds
LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
For this activity, we wrote about a time when we, or someone we know, experienced a challenge and overcame it. The challenge was based off of Stephen Hawkings. Stephen Hawking was an English scientist who was interested in studying the origin (beginning) of the universe. When he was young , he was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease and he lost the ability to walk and talk. Even though he had a serious disease it didn't stop him from having a long and productive life. He overcame the odds and was one of the best scientist in the whole world.
Recount:
I had a friend who was in a Gymnastics team. He was trying to learn the front flip for his routine. At his gym he had trouble learning it. So I told him to try to do it on a trampoline. He nailed the whole thing. He just needed to try to push with his legs more. So we went to the gym and did it over and over until he could do it. He finally did it. He got so used to it to the point he started adding stuff while he was flipping.

Starry Night
LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
For this activity, we had to to select one of the pictures on the site and then study or observe it closely. On our blog, we had to describe the painting in detail. We had to say what we saw, and write down as much as we could and in detail. This task was based off of famous scientist or theorist who came up with theories and told us what we know of the world and how it works. They come up with these theories by observing closely.
