Now I am learning about what is needed to sustain human life. There are six main elements of life. Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Sulphur. Our work was to pick a planet to study, and research to try to find out if that planet can support human life in the future using help by machines. The planet I picked to study on is Mars.

Play Dialouge (Work in Progress)

LI: to write a narrative in the for of a play
Recently we have been working on a project to write a narrative. But the narrative is in the form of a play. So we have started to write our Orientation and parts of  the dialogue. We have also made a storyboard so it could give us a brief idea of what we are going to do for the dialogue and the play. We are carry on with this project so it is a Work in Progress.

Gymnastics

LI: to develop body movements of balance, rotation and strength
We first started off by playing Tag but we had to navigate around in specific ways like hop around with one leg. We then did some stretches. We did the L - Shape, Seal, Butterfly, Cat, Straddle.

We then did another rotation. But some of the activities were different.
Rotation One: There was a beam to walk forwards on then stretch your legs to the front and back. We also had to cartwheel across or along a line. Lastly there was another beam we had to do a forward roll on. We then had to do a 360 degrees jump. We then had to do bunny hops on a beam.

Rotation Two: There was a trampoline to jump on and we had to do a dive roll. We then had to do a backwards roll. After we had to do a full handstand, and a cartwheel. Lastly jump of a board and do a 180 spin in the air.

Rotation Three: We had to do a handstand on a wall on bars. We then went on bars held ourselves on it. Next there were parallel bars and we had to hold our touching our bottoms then swinging. There was a beam and we had to do a Front, Back, and Side Support rotation. Lastly there were bars we had to push ourselves up.

Decimal Problems

LI: to practise solving decimal addition and subtraction problems
We learnt how to solve decimal problems using both Place Value and the Written Algorithm. One of our task was to solve a bunch of Decimal Problems both Addition and Subtraction. We then had to make a poster saying "What Are Decimals", and "How do you add and subtract decimals".

White Water Actoin

LI: to synthesise the text

Synthesising is finding out the new understanding. For our work we had to do a table mat again but with another text. Our task was to fill in our Table Mat which was finding information about the book. The making connections poster is to fill in the boxes. Our synthesising poster is to write down our prior knowledge, the new information, and new understanding. The text we are doing now is "White Water Action".

African Drumming

LI: to learn african drumming
Johnny from Rhythm Interactive taught us four rhythms or beats on the djembe drum. Johnny taught us by singing and clapping the rhythms for us to copy. One of the tunes Johnny taught us was "I like chocolate cake" and "So do I". Johnny teaches a message to children. That message is that "Together, we can make a change".

African Drumming with Johnny was a really fun experience. As well as being a new experience.

 LI: to skim and scan
Making Connections is a connection you have with the book. There are three types of making connections. Text to You, which is something in the book that is related to you or has happened to you. Text to Text is what is in the text that relates to another text. Text to World is something in the book that relates or happened in the world. For our work we had to do a table mat again but with another text. Synthesising is finding out the new understanding.

Zoo Trip

LI: to learn about the animals in the Auckland Zoo
We first went to an area in the zoo where they show animals from Africa. We first saw Zebras, Giraffes, and Ostriches. It was really amazing to see how well the Giraffes, Zebras, and Ostriches stayed calm while being together. We focused more on Giraffes, and learnt some facts like the reason Giraffes have blue tongues are to keep it from sunburning.

We then kept exploring the African region and saw some Meerkats. We learnt that they communicate with each other when a predator comes. So one would be a lookout and if it sees a predator it will make a squeak and it will tell the others to come back in the burrow. After we saw some lions and learnt facts like that their night visions is 8x better than a humans. Next we saw rhinos, specifically "White Rhinos". We got to touch a rhinos horn and learnt that their horns are made out of the same material as a humans.

Next we saw Flamingos and found out that their knees are at the waist, and their ankles are where the knees normally are. We later saw Asian Elephants, specifically Burmese Elephants from the Sri Lanka Region.

After we went exploring around the zoo. We went through the whole of the Africa Region, the Australia Region where we got to see Wallabys, turtles, and more.  We went to parts of the South America region looking at monkeys and more.

Identifying Decimals

LI: to identify tenths, hundredths, and thousandths
Decimals are a value that is less than one, but more than zero. We learnt how to say the decimals, the way to make it into fractions, the number before and after. So for example: If I had the number 0.5 in words it would be zero point five, in fractions it would be 5/10, the number before is 0.4, and number after is 0.6.

Hiwi the Kiwi

LI: to be a responsible in the sea and when fishing
When on a boat or any kind of vehicle that goes on water you should always wear a life jacket to keep you safe. If something goes wrong and you fall off it might be too late to put on your life jacket. We also learnt some fish sizes like a Snapper being 30 centimetres. If you catch a small fish it should be let go because its too young. If its a big fish you also should let that go because it might be breeding babies. A lot of sea birds are dying now because of plastic. Seabirds are too stupid to realise its plastic.

We also learnt some tips when catching a fish. For example when holding a fish you should use a wet towel because if you use your bare hands it damages its scales. You should also use salt water when washing a fish cause it might get bad really quickly.

We also sang some songs, listened to minstrel, answered questions, and did challenges.

Table Mat

LI: to make connections
Making Connection is making a connection with the text with three things. Make a connection with the text with yourself, another text, and the world. We then had a table mat and we had to gather information about a book we read about. The book I read was lagoon hopping. In the table mat I had to write down keywords, key questions, some images (attributed), 4 facts, questions we would ask, and prior knowledge we already know about the text.

Attribution

LI: to learn how to attribute
Attribution is when you give credit to someone else's work, such as a picture, video, diagram and more. We have also learnt what copyright and what fair use is. Copyright is to use the owners work responsibly, we have to give credit to the owner, you can buy it if necessary. Fair use is getting permission to use, and you can use peoples work but only part of it. But if you do that you can't make any profit from it, and a bunch more.

How to attribute:

  1. Get your photo
  2. Link the original photo
  3. Then link to the owner of the work you are using
  4. After link the Commons or License

Weathers in Maori

LI: to learn the weathers in te reo maori
Matariki is Maori New Year. The whetu (Stars) disappear in August and the whetu reappear in June. The whetu are the Seven Stars or Sisters.  We read two stories that were related to Matariki. We then had to make posters. There were two we had to pick from, counting the stars, or a poster about the weather in te reo maori.
