Basic Fact Boxes

LI: to remember basic facts
I took on the Speed Demon Challenge. I did Addition and it took me 3 minutes and 5 seconds to finish all the equations.

Kiwisport

LI: To learn about water safety
This week we were learning water safety with life jackets. We first had to get into a line. It was kind of like a starfish except we had to hold onto each other's life jackets. We started swimming around and had to turn around and change directions. We then started swimming around to get warmed up. After we got into circles and huddled up and had to bring our knees in. Once we did that we had to have the smallest person to go into the middle to keep them warm. We did the help position which was doing the star fish and putting our hands up while yelling "HELP!". We then learnt about the HELP acronym which was also another position. The acronym was Heat, Escape, Lessening, Position. We had to put our knees up as high as possible to our chest and we had to wrap our hands around our legs. We then did the pencil step. We had to have our hands touching our shoulders, and the other wrapped around our neck. We then had to take a step in the pool and go down straight, the position was helping us not to lean forwards or backwards. It was great because we learned new skills and it could potentially save our lives in the near future.

Places to visit in Japan!

LI: apply inquiry, literacy and numeracy skills to learn about the Rugby World Cup
We are doing a Rugby World Cup Challenge. We had to use our reading, writing, and maths skills to complete the task. Our task was to pick five places in Japan we really wanted to visit. We had to add in facts and why we wanted to visit the place. The places we picked were Mt Fuji, Osaka, Tokyo, Sapporo, Kyoto. Mt Fuji is the tallest point in Japan. Tokyo is the capital of Japan and the city alone is 3 times bigger than New Zealand. Sapporo is the largest city on Hokkaido island. Kyoto is the largest city in japan and Osaka was once the capital of Japan

Rugby Profile

LI: to apply our inquiry, literacy and numeracy skills to learn about the Rugby World Cup
For this activity we had to pick Rugby Player from the Rugby World Cup and we had to make a profile on them. Like when they were born, their height, weight, their position. We also had to put a picture in and some facts about them. The player we picked was Sonny Bill Williams. He is a former New Zealand boxer and former league player.

Venn Diagram (Japan & NZ)

LI: to apply our inquiry, literacy, and numeracy skills to learn about the Rugby World Cup
Our task was to find the differences between New Zealand and Japan. Like how All Blacks have actually won a World Cup unlike Japan. We also had to find the similarities like how both countries have hosted the Rugby World Cup. The differences I wrote down was like the name of their rugby team, and the scenery in each place.

Rube Goldberg Machine

LI: to make a working Rube Goldberg machine by using the 6 simple machines.
Over the past weeks, in groups LS1 had to make a Rube Goldberg machine, We used the 6 simple machines. Wheel and axle, Lever, Incline plane, Pulley, Screw & Wedge had to be included. The challenges were turning a Chromebook on, helping Mr Wong roll dice and hitting a putter. Our scenario was turning on the Chromebook.

On the last week our group had managed to get the machine finish. We used four different types of simple machines a wheel and axle, pulley, incline plane and a lever. For the wheel and axle we used a car. For the Pulley we used a string from a yo-yo and latches from the window. For the incline plane we used a marble roll down a ramp. And used the dominoes as the lever.

The most challenging task was creating the machines and trying to apply the 6 simple machines and communicating with our group to know what is going on and how we could help. I'd change another way of putting dominoes up without it falling because we always had to keep putting it up and the amount of sellotape we used.

Rugby Events

LI: to apply our inquiry, literacy, and numeracy skills to learn about the Rugby World Cup
Our task was to write down three events that we think were really memorable and historical. The first one we did was the 1987 rugby world cup. I picked that because that was the first rugby world cup and the first winners were New Zealand or the All Blacks, the match was France vs All Blacks and the score was 29 - 9. The second was the 2011 rugby world cup because New Zealand won it again, plus the finals were France vs All Blacks again but this time France nearly won. The score was 7 - 8. The last one I picked was the 2015 world cup because New Zealand won it again. It was New Zealand vs Australia and the score was 34 - 17.

Rugby Positions

LI: to apply our inquiry, literacy, and numeracy skills to learn about the Rugby World Cup
We were learning about the rugby positions. Our task was to match the player with the position. For example I had Richie Mccaw and two positions. I would have to match it with one of the positions. But we had to add some things because it was a little bit basic. I had to research a little bit about the players, like their physical information like their weight and height. We also had to find out some facts like if they've made and or broken any records. We then had to find out the main function or the role of the position.

World Time

LI: apply inquiry, literacy and numeracy skills to learn about the Rugby World Cup
This week we are doing a Rugby World Cup Challenge. We still had to apply our literacy, inquiry, and numeracy skills. The task we were doing right now was trying to figure out the rugby finals time from heaps of the time zones. We had to find it out in the Hapan Standard Time, New Zealand Standard Time, and more.

AM stands for Anti Meridian and PM stands for Post Meridian. Anti Meridian means before midday and Post Meridian means after midday. We also learnt that if a country is big it would have different time zones. For example Australia has two different time zones, the east coast has the Australian Eastern Standard Time, the west coast has the Western Australian Standard Time.

LI: to learn how to smartcomment
I commented on Diana's blog - post. She was blogging about the Basic Fact Boxes. On my comment I complimented her, and gave her feedback.

Swimming

LI: to learn about water safety
We did freestyles and did a bunch of laps. Its kind of like a streamline without putting your ams together, you have to do arm strokes and do kicking. A tip was when we get tired doing freestyles we should do backstrokes to catch out breath. We then did streamlines. A streamline is when you have your arms together straight and behind your head, then you swim like that. Lastly we played a little game which was racing.

Basic Fact Boxes

LI: to remember basic facts
I took on the Speed Demon Challenge. I did Multiplication and it took me two minutes and 45 seconds to finish all the equations.

A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Wide Window

LI: to summarise a text
For SSR Selfie I read "A series of unfortunate events: The wide window". It is a fiction book which is a book that is telling a story. The book was very interesting. It was made my Daniel Handler and the pseudonym is Lemony Snicket. A pseudonym is a fictitious name normally used by authors.

Advertising

LI: to create an advert using the skills and knowledge we know
For the next couple of weeks we are going to be creating Advertisements. A print advert and a television advert. But in the adverts we have to include the critical analysis. Our product was a Thneed. A fictional product from the story "The Lorax". We did a fictional object so we could come up with our own ideas.

Faulty Reasoning

 LI: to understand faulty reasoning
Faulty reasoning is arguing or talking with someone but your facts or statistics on't make sense or aren't true. There are different types of Faulty Reasoning. There is Illogical assumptions which is making up assumptions but probably have other factors or influences, like "The teacher gave the student detention because he didn't like the student". But the student probably got detention because of what they were doing or saying.Another is Circular Reasoning which is supporting a claim but repeating the claim. For example: "Stephen Curry is the best dribbler because he dribbles so well". That's just repeating the same thing. Next is Over Generalisation which is making a global statement when there probably are other exceptions. For example "Football is the best sport in the world! Everybody loves Football!". Not everybody likes football. Another is Biased Argument which is saying a statement just because of your own personal feelings like "Panmure Bridge School has long lunchtimes, Panmure Bridge School is the best!". Lastly there is Contradiction which is providing a claim that goes against your claim. For example: "We should ban school uniform because it promotes fairness and equality!". That's going against your argument!

Our task was to fill in a draw which had each of the different types of Faulty Reasoning. We had to write in the definition and a example of the Faulty Reasoning. Next we had a text with the different types of Faulty Reasoning in them, the Faulty Reasoning were there but we had to match it with the type of Faulty Reasoning. We then had a bunch of sentences that were Faulty Reasoning and we had to match them with the type. We then had three text we had to read them and find the Faulty Reasoning and write down the type.

Kiwi Can

LI: to cope with challenges
We learnt how to face our challenges and experience / attempt them. We looked at three different types of challenges. Physical challenges which is like trying new sports and more. Mental challenges are like Maths, Reading, Writing and more. Our activity was to pick a situation or scenario from one of the three different types of challenges. We had to write what we would be feeling and how we would cope. This was a group task.

LI: to learn about water safety
We first warmed up doing streamlines. A streamline is when you have your arms together straight and behind your head, then you swim like that. We then did arm-strokes and a tip we got was to kick so it gives us speed, but when we get tired we shouldn't speed up because it makes us more tired.  We then did backstrokes. Which was the same thing as arm-strokes but just on your back.

LI: to remember basic facts
I took on the Speed Demon Challenge. I did Addition up to 20 and it took me two minutes and 43 seconds to finish all the equations.

Maths Art (WIP)

LI: to make art
This week we didn't have commissions but we had to measure the area and perimeter for our artworks. The amount of space I can use is 19 centimeters in width, 22 centimeters in height, 82 centimeters squared, and 418 centimeters of space. The kind of art we're going to have to do is a Maths art, so my one is geometric landscape. In my art I'm going to include mountains, the ocean, and the sun,

Advertising 3.0

LI: to learn about persuasive tools in advertising
Advertising is a media to show a product to sell or service to use. In advertisements they use persuasive tools to persuade people to buy or use the product or service. This week we were talking about television advertising and more on celebrity endorsements. We first had a slide on trying to find NZ celebrity endorsements. We then had to analyse the ad and answer some questions. We had to watch the ad, then answer questions like who is the author, what are the techniques used to attract and hold the audiences attention and more. We then had to find our own ad and do the same thing.

LI: to deal with challenges
Dealing with challenges has a lot of meanings, but the one we were focusing on was dealing with difficult situations. Our theme is Resilience and our topic is Dealing with challenges. We talked about how we had to practice dealing with challenges so in the future we can deal with them easily. Our activity was a Bus Stop activity. We had images and on those images were people dealing with challenges, and we had to explain what they were experiencing and feeling.

Beat Bullying

LI: to synthesise information for the CRAAP test.
CRAAP stands for Currency, Relevancy, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose. We had a persuasive speech on a topic, my topic was about bully and how it should be stopped. We had to write down our prior knowledge down on the synthesize poster about what we already know about the topic. We then had to fill in a QAR poster. We had a bunch of questions about the book, we had to answer the questions but also place where the type of question is. Next we had to finish off our synthesize poster by filling out the new information and new understanding. Lastly we had to write down a script for our Flipgrid, and in our script we had to say if we agree or disagree.

Art Measurements

LI: measure lengths and calculate area & perimeter
This week we didn't have commissions but we had to measure the area and perimeter for our artworks. The area is the space of something inside, and the perimeter is the outline. The amount of space I can use is 19 centimeters in width, 22 centimeters in height, 82 centimeters squared, and 418 centimeters of space. The kind of art we're going to have to do is a Maths art, so my one is geometric landscape.

Ad vs Reality

LI: to learn about persuasive tools in advertising
Advertising is a media to show a product to sell or service to use. In advertisements they use persuasive tools to persuade people to buy or use the product or service. This week we were talking about a spokesperson or a mascot for a company. Like McDonalds mascot is Ronald McDonald. Our slide had us talk about celebrity endorsements as well. Like how Lionel Messi has a deal with Adidas. We then had to write down our POV on celebrity endorsements as well as other examples. We then had to find slogans for food companies, tech companies and more. Lastly we had to write down a slogan for our school and write down advertising effects in commercials.

Screw

LI: to learn about Incline Planes
A screw is devide made of a tube bent spirally around a cylinder and use to raise water. So its used to pick up from a low point to high point. We had to fill in a poster, write down the definition, some answers to a test we were doing, and examples of inclines planes in everyday life. We made our own screw to use our of a tube, a stick, and tape. We had to try to see if it worked if it didn't we had to see what was wrong.

Stop this horrendous crime

LI: to synthesise information for the CRAAP test.
CRAAP stands for Currency, Relevancy, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose. We had a persuasive speech on a topic, my topic was about animal cruelty and how it should be stopped. Print Design Rules

LI: to apply the Print Design Rules

In the print design rules there are four areas. The print design rules are used to make DLO (Digital Learning Object) or projects look more appealing. One is composition meaning that there should be a balance between pictures and text. Layout is aligning and arranging where each of the things go. Colour is a combination of colours to make the project or DLO look more cool. Text is using the font styles, and sizes to make it look more appealing and able to read. Our task make a poster one of the six simple machines.

LI: to learn how to deal with challenges
Dealing with challenges has a lot of meanings, but the one we were focusing on was dealing with difficult situations. We talked about how we could deal with challenges and what kind of challenges we have to deal on a daily basis. Our activity was to try to make a cross out of only a few shapes. This was our challenge, When we finished we talked about what was hard about this challenges.
