Selling Frames

LI: to learn about business
For the last couple of weeks LS1 has been studying business and enterprise. So LS1 started their own business, and started making frames to sell. We first started off by picking a theme to guide what our design would look like. The theme for my frame was Winter. I first started off by painting my frame light blue to give it a winter feel. Then I made accessories. The accessories I made were snowmen, snowflakes, and I used glitter as snow

Athletics Day

On 22nd of November Panmure Bridge School did Atheltics. Each class was sorted into four groups. The groups were Red, Yellow, Blue and Green. The Yr 6s started with Lilly Pad Gladiator, then they played Rob the nest and tried to get as much balls as possible. We then did long jump and we tried to jump as far as we could. We then played sponge relay, softball throw, hula hoop throws, the egg and spoon challenge, then we played lifesaver and lastly we played frisbee throws. We then had sausage sizzles. Later in the afternoon we had races for Yr 1s -Yr 8s.

LS1 Supply and Demand Post

On the LS1 blog I wrote a blog - post. It was about Inquiry and how LS1 was learning about Supply and Demand and the game they were playing. Here is the link: https://pbsls1.blogspot.com/2019/11/supply-and-demand.html

Kiwisport

LI: to learn tennis
This week we started off by doing rallies. But while we were doing rallies we were trying to control the power we put into the racket when we hit the ball. We then played doubles, which is just normal tennis but there are two people on each side. We the practised our serving. When we were with our partner we had to be on different sides. So we were in a diagonal position. So we had the racket on our shoulder and the ball on the other hand so when we threw our ball up, we could hit the ball with the racket.

Coffee Shop Game

LI: to learn about business
For Inquiry we were playing a coffee shop game. In the game we were in a coffee business. We had to buy the supply and adjust the recipe of the coffee to get it to taste good. If our coffee was good and the price was good our reputation would go up. It would show a graph showing if our reputation increased or decreased, how many cups we sold, how much cash we made, and see if we changed the price while we were selling. So the objective of the game was to try to make as much money in 14 days.

Character & Setting Description

LI: to identify parts of a narrative
This week we were planning our narratives. We started off by coming up with a Male character whose name was Jaerell, and a Female character named Patricia. We then came up with settings which were the future city of Los Angeles, an abandoned farm, and Area 51. We then had to do a Character Description for Jaerell and Patricia. Then a setting description for the future city of Los Angeles, Area 51, and a abandoned farm.

Paper Plane Measurements

LI: to use statistical and scientific methods to study the effect of wing span and area on lift
This week we tried different model planes and tested their studied the effect of the wingspan and area on lift. The plane model I made was a Zip Flip which was a glider plane. We threw our paper planes ten times. We then had to find the average by adding all the measurements up and dividing it by ten. We then made a graph with a trend-line to see if the wingspan effected the distance flown by the plane.

Fiction Follow Ups

LI: to comprehend fiction text
I was reading the Adventures of Tutankhamen. It was about a kid who was about to become a Pharaoh at the age of nine. This book was a fiction story based on facts. I then had to do a fiction follow up. I had to describe a character, find the meaning of some words, ask some questions to the characters, describe a setting, sequence the events, make a key word cloud, and research the author.

Matilda News

LI: to novel study
For the next couple of weeks we are going to do novel studies. We did novel studies on Roald Dahl books. The Roald Dahl book I am reading is Matilda, which I really like. We had a bunch of activities to do like Character Descriptions, Author Studies, Vocabulary and a bunch more. This week the activity I did was to make a newspaper about a new principal in Crunchem Hall Primary. In this activity I needed to have a headline, photo, caption, have a proper article structure, and to have a audio recording of a witness.

Kiwi Can

LI: to learn about Patience
For the next couple of weeks we are going to be learning about Patience. Patience is being able to accept problems and delays without getting frustrated. We talked about how we could lose our patience and what its like when people lose their patience. Our activity was called Patience Test. We got into two lines (boys & girls). In our lines we held each others shoulder. In the back was Mr Simanu holding the back lines shoulders. Mr Simanu would press it and we would carry it on. Then the person at the front would have to go get the cone. So that tests our patience by not cheating.

Maori

LI: to learn about Te Reo Maori & Maori
We did our task which was completing a sheet. Our sheet was Wiki Ono. The sheet Wiki Ono was just translating a bunch of words. But before that we were playing around with Poi Poi's and doing actions with them and even did a song.

Commenting

LI: to learn how to smartcomment
I commented on Acein's blog - post. Acein's blog - post was about what he did for Maths. In my comment I complimented him, connected with him, and told him some mistakes he made in his blurb.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules

LI: to summarise a text
For SSR Selfie I read "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules". It is a fiction book which is a book that is telling a story. The book was very interesting. It was made my Jeff Kinney and the pseudonym is Greg Heffley. A pseudonym is a fictitious name normally used by authors.

Basic Fact Boxes

LI: to remember basic facts
I took on the Speed Demon Challenge. I did my Division and it took me 3 minutes and 17 seconds to finish all the equations.

Tennis

LI: to learn how to serve
We first started off with small rallies. We then later did a warm up to help us with our serving. When we were with our partner we had to be on different sides. So we were in a diagonal position. We then had to serve the ball to each other diagonally without the racket. We served the ball in a shot put position. So our ball in our hands and our hands on our shoulder and pushing the ball. We then did the serve with the racket. So we had the racket on our shoulder and the ball on the other hand so when we threw our ball up, we could hit the ball with the racket.

Wingspan Data

LI: to use statistical and scientific methods to study the effects of the wingspan and area on lift
We made graphs to study the lift to see if the wingspan and distance differs. The type of graph we made was a scatter chart. We first threw our planes and had to measure the distance. We also needed the measurements as data so we can use it in our graph. We also have made some mistakes like how all our planes are all pretty consistent but our 14cm plane is way off, so we might have thrown it too hard. We also made a paper graph, and drew a trend-line. A trend-line is a line that shows how high or low the results are. Our interpretation of the graph is that the bigger the wingspan the further the plane goes.

Setting Description

LI: to investigate figurative language
Figurative language is saying something to someone but not directly meaning it. Like last week we tried to describing a character with different types of figurative language. Simile, Metaphor, Personification, and Hyperbole. This week we described a setting using figurative language. We used our five senses: See, Smell, Taste, Sound, and Feel. We used those to help us describe the settings. The setting I did was of the Sky Tower in Auckland.

Foodprint

LI: to learn business
Today a businesswoman named Michael came in to share her journey on creating her business. Her business is Foodprint which is an app that sells food for half the price, from cafes and bakeries that had to much supply and less demand. Michael started working on her business two years ago and just launched it just under six months ago. She started this because she thought Food waste was a problem. Right now in the world we have 7.5 billion people, and we make food enough to feed 10 billion people. So the leftover food we have people just throw it away. People waste 1.3 billion tonnes of food which decays and turns into methane gas which contributes to climate change. So food waste isn't just wasting food which could be eaten, but is also changing other stuff like climate change.

For example bread is the one of the most wasted food items on earth. New Zealand waste 20 million loaves of bread even though there are only 4.5 million of people in New Zealand. She also shared how she made her logo, name, and a bunch of other things.

Maori

LI: to learn about Te Reo Maori & Maori
We did our task which was completing a bunch of sheets. Our first sheet was No hea koe. Lastly we did Ko wai koe which is translating the maori phrases into english. For example Ko wai koe means "Who are you?".

Kiwican

LI: to learn Respectful Communication
Respectful Communication is communicating to people in different ways like language, body language and a bunch more, but also communicating to the person politely and respectfully. Our energiser was Math Hands. We were in partners and we had to have our hand in the back we then showed our hands with an amount of fingers and we had to add it up as fast as possible. Our activity was Musical Chairs but instead of chairs we used cones.

The Last Kids on Earth

LI: to summarise a text
For SSR Selfie I read "The Last Kids on Earth". It is a fiction book which is a book that is telling a Story. The book was very interesting. It was written by Max Brallier and illustrated by Douglas Holgate. This book is also a Netflix series.

Basic Fact Boxes

LI: to remember basic facts
I took on the Speed Demon Challenge. I did my Division and it took me 3 minutes and 14 seconds to finish all the equations.

Supply & Demand

LI: to learn Supply and Demand
Supply is how much there is available of the product. If the supplies price increases the company will make or build more of the product for the people. Demand is how much of the product people want. If the price increases, not as much people want it. Our task was to make a slide explaning Supply and Demand. We then played a game which was called "I Supply, You Demand". Basically we were a company and we had to make money by picking an amount of stock and choosing the price of the product.

Kiwisport

LI: to learn the volley
This week we started learning the volley. We had to use the forehand and backhand grip technique but rather then hitting it after it bounces you hit it on the full. We first started with a partner throwing a ball at us and we had to hit the ball on the full. We then had a rally with our partner but we had to go hit it on the full. We also did it a point system. I lost 20 - 21.

Origami Plane

LI: to use statistical and scientific methods to study the effect of wingspan and area on lift.]
For the next couple of weeks we are studying aerodynamics. We learnt what variables are as well as
independent and dependent variables. Our task this week was to create 12 paper/origami planes focusing on one certain design and studying each aspect of the design and which part of the paper planes are important and how they affect launch and flight. A variable is a feature of an object or thing that can change between multiple types of the object/item. An independent variable is unchanged by other variables or will not be changed by other aspects or assets of a variable. A dependent variable is depends on another factor in order to be changed.

Figurative Description

LI: to investigate figurative language
Figurative language is saying something but not actually meaning it, not saying it directly. We've learnt five types of figurative language. Simile is comparing two things by using the words like or as. An example is "He was as fast as a cheetah". Another is Metaphor which is also comparing two things without using like or as. For example "He was a pig at dinner". Next is Personification which is giving human traits to inanimate objects or ideas. Later we learned Hyperbole which is exaggerating to show strong feelings or effect. Another example is "My house is a million miles from here". Understatement is the exact opposite of Hyperbole, it is expression with less strength then expected. For example "I'll be there in a second". We got a bunch of characters and we described them figuratively. We described them by using Similes, Metaphors, Hyperbole, and Personification.

Touch Rugby

LI: to have fun play Touch
On Wednesday the 6th of November we had Touch Rugby. The team I was in was Yr 6 Team B. We first went against Tamaki Primary and lost 6 - 0. We then went against Point England and lost 5 - 0. We then went against Glen Taylor which was a brutal lost. We lost 5 - 0. We then went against Glenbrae and we lost 4 - 1. Then we went against Panama Rd and lost 3 - 1. Our last game was  against Panmure District and we sadly lost 2 - 1. It ws brutal.

Respectful Communication

LI: to learn respectful communication
This term for Kiwican our theme is "Respect". For the next couple of weeks we will be learning about Respectful Communication. We first talked about any different ways of communication like speaking, emails and text, body language and a heap more. We then talked about "What is Respectful Communcation". Respectful Communication is communicating with people respectfully, formally, and really just being nice. We then played Animal Choir. We would get into groups and each group had a song, then the conductor or the leader are going to point at us so we can sing.

Matilda

LI: to summarise a text
For SSR Selfie I read "Matilda". It is a fiction book which is a book that is telling a Story. The book was very interesting. It was written by a brilliant write and drawn by a brilliant illustrator. Matilda was a book written by Roald Dahl. Roald Dahl has written many kids stories that have sold millions all over the world. Quentin Black was the illustrator for the book, he has illustrated many books for Roald Dahl, including other authors like David Walliams.

Goods and Services

LI: to learn what is a business
This week we had to divide the companies into Goods & Services. When we divided the companies into Goods and Services, we had to make them into smaller groups. For example a food company would be in Goods, so then you would make a food category under Goods. So we then had to record the groups into a sheet. We then put the groups onto a piece of paper.

Origami Planes

LI: to use statistical and scientific methods to study the effect of wing span and area on lift
This week we started making Origami Planes. There were two types of plane we can make. One was the standard plane and the other one was a different plane. The first one was a bit taller then the second one. We had to pick one of the plane models to study. I picked the second plane model. Our  task was to make a diagram show the parts of the origami plane. We also had to measure the parts of the plane. We measured the fuselage length, fuselage width, wingspan, wing area, and wing length.
