We then did swimming having our hands by our side and kicking with our legs. We then did backstrokes then swapped and looked down in the water. We then did freestyles which was swimming anyway you want. When we did that we had to trying to dive down. We then had a little play time, we had these small toy sticks and we had to throw them in the water, and dive down to get them.

Pulley

LI: to learn about pulley.
A rope that is around a wheel to pull up a heavy load, which is like a incline plane but pulls straight up. We had a little play with ropes and a stick to see how pulleys work. We first started with one person pulling the sticks in with people holding on. We then used a rope and put a loop on the sticks and pulled with the rope. We then progressively added loops on the stick. We then had a poster with a bunch of questions on and we had to answer questions.

Proportion Word Problems

LI: to solve proportions
The proportion is the amount of two ratios or fractions are equivalent by. It could be a whole number or a fraction. This term we are managing money, finances, rent and more. We have commissions or jobs we have to do before a specific day, and we get payed based on how we do it. If we do the job well we get paid more, if we just make it basic we get less money. My commission was to do a quiz on Proportion Word Problems. The commission is a Work In Progress.

CRAAP stands for Currency, Relevancy, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose. We had a persuasive speech on a topic, my topic was technology and how its taking over our lives. We had to write down our prior knowledge down on the synthesize poster about what we already know about the topic. We then had to fill in a QAR poster. We had a bunch of questions about the book, we had to answer the questions but also place where  the type of question is. Next we had to finish off our synthesize poster by filling out the new information and new understanding. Lastly we had to write down a script for our Flipgrid, and in our script we had to say if we agree or disagree.

Incline Plane Comment

LI: to learn how to smartcomment
I commented on Elaario's blog - post. He was blogging about his Inquiry. He was blogging about the Incline Plane. On my comment I complimented him, and gave him feedback.

Swimming

LI: to learn about water safety
We first warmed up doing streamlines. A streamline is when you have your arms to gether straight and behind your head, then you swim like that. We then did rescues which was trying to rescue a person who was drowning. We got some tips and some of those tips were to not be able to touch the person who is drowning. If you do they're going to start try to get on top of you so they don't drown. We should use a rope like thing to pull them in, but when pulling them in you should lie down, so they don't pull you in.

We then had a little play time, we had these small toy sticks and we had to throw them in the water, and dive down to get them.

Self Control

LI: to learn about self control
Our theme for this term is Resilience, which means coping with challenges and bouncing back. Our topic for the next couple of weeks is Self Control. Self Control, is controlling your emotions, your actions and more in a positive way. Our activity was trying to do four challenges. We had to do each challenge in a minute, we had to do them by not stressing out, and we had to try to control ourselves when doing it.

One of the challenges was a fitness test. We had to try to do 5 press ups, 5 sit ups, 5 squats, and 5 burpees in under a minute. Another one was trying to write the alphabet backwards, but we had to start from Z, and we couldn't write the alphabet and copy them. Next was trying to match the English colours with the Maori colours. Last was trying to recreate the Kiwi Can catchphrase using new actions.

The challenging part of the fitness test was being exhausted, I overcame it by having small breaks in between every time I changed. Writing the alphabet was difficult because I knew we wouldn't complete it, but I overcame that by coming up with a strategy. Matching the Maori words with  English words was hard because I forgot it, but I overcame it by trying to do it with the ones I know. Recreating the Kiwican catchphrase wasn't that hard.

Fix the Poster

LI: to apply the Print Design Rules
In the print design rules there are four areas. The print design rules are used to make DLO (Digital Learning Object) or projects look more appealing. One is composition meaning that there should be a balance between pictures and text. Layout is aligning and arranging where each of the things go. Colour is a combination of colours to make the project or DLO look more cool. Text is using the font styles, and sizes to make it look more appealing and able to read. Our task was to fix a poster, for each of the four areas.

Incline Plane

LI: to learn about Incline Planes
A plane is a surface, and incline is like a slope. So incline plane would be a surface that has one side higher then the other. We had to ill in a poster Write down the definition, some answers to a test we were doing, and examples of inclines planes in everyday life. We had toy cars we had to test them using different incline planes. We had two test to do. The first was to push the car on incline planes that were on different angles, and the second one was to try to make the car keep going when it goes on the ground. We did the second one because when it went down there was a big gap so the car would go out of control.

Speech and Poetry Finals

LI: to learn about persuasive speeches
On the 20th of August 2019 we had a speech and poetry recital. My favourite poem was called Earth Day recited by Mercy. It was about the earth and how we should protect and clean it. I like it because the poem was very meaningful. My favourite speech was by Mele. Mele's speech was on the Ihumatao protest happening in Mangere. The Ihumatao protest is about a company who wants to take the Maori and Iwi's land. The Maori and Iwi refuse because the land is sacred.

Ihumatao

LI: to identify the main idea from the text
Ihumatao is a protest in Mangere over a sacred land. A company called Flecthers wants to build on the land to build houses. People are against it because the land is sacred to the Maori and Iwi. Our task was to make a small speech on the Ihumatao protest. We had to pick a side, and write three reasons then the conclusion.

When presenting Mr Ogilvie rated our speech by different areas. Like delivery, content and more. We then had to answer a bunch of questions about our speeches. My speech was rated 38/50.

Ihumatao

LI: to separate the main idea from the text
We are still continuing with the Ihumatao protest. The Ihumatao protest is about a company who wants to take the Maori and Iwi's land. The Maori and Iwi refuse because the land is sacred. On the slides we are doing right now, it is a bunch of sites and we have to try to find the Point of view of the writers. We then had to agree with them or not, and say why we do or don't.

Ratio Word Problem (WIP)

LI: to identify and simplify
A ratio is a comparison of the amount of two or more things. In a ration there are numbers for each part, and a colon to separate the numbers. This term we are managing money, finances, rent and more. We have commissions or jobs we have to do before a specific day, and we get payed based on how we do it. If we do the job well we get paid more, if we just make it basic we get less money.

Wheel & Axle | Lever

LI: to learn about wheel and axles and lever
A wheel is a circle that rolls along the ground. A axle is a stick or rod that goes through the centre of the wheel. A lever is a bar that rests on a fulcrum to lift up a heavy load by applying pressure on one side. We had a poster for both simple machines and we had to answer the questions on the poster. We then had to make a wheel and axle. We then later in the week tried to use the lever to pick something up.

Self Control

LI: to learn about self control
Our new topic for Kiwican for the next couple of weeks is Self Control. Self control is when you control yourself in different ways. Such as controlling your emotion,s, actions and more. Our energizer was "Head, shoulders, knees, and toes". The kiwican leader would say head, shoulders, knees and toes. We had to do the action, but when they said toes, we had to grab a cone between the two people.

Then we talked about what was Self Control, and what was Self Discipline. For our activity we did Roleplay. We were given a scenario and we had to act that scenario out.

Fractions

LI: to learn around the topic of fractions
We learnt how to add and subtract fractions. When adding or subtracting fractions you should never do anything to the denominator, and always do the operation only on the numerator. When both denominators are different you should look at the least common multiple. The Least Common Multiple is when two numbers or more share the same lowest number in their tables.

Swimming

LI: to learn water safety
We first started off with stream lines. Then James (Instructor) gave us a tip when doing our streamlines. We do our streamlines with a straight body, and our head looking down in the water. Then when we kick we should use the strength from our hips and thighs.

Next we used paddle boards to practise our kicks. We then held the paddle board horizontally and did our kicks. Later we had to try to swim down and touch the ground, then come back up. Lastly we did laps and tried to do it without stopping. Lastly we did a swim we wanted to do and hopped out.

Lion King

We went to watch the the Lion King played by Ormiston Junior College. We were lucky enough to get to watch the matinee. It was so amazing to see how it was played so smoothly and how it flowed together. It started with Simba and Nala going out the border, which then led to Mufasa's death in the stampede. Then Scar sent Simba to go away and never return. Simba then found himself with Pumbaa Timon. Nala then came back and told Simba to come back to the Prideland and defeat Scar. Simba refused but go convinced by Rafiki. Simba then went to the Pridelands and went to defeat Scar.

My favourite character was Simba, both young and old Simba. Young Simba was played by Quinn and Paul from Ormison Junior College.

Ihumatao

LI: to identify the main ideas in the text
We continued working on the slide and we started doing the timeline of the Ihumatao protest. It started all the way back in the 1860s and still continues to this day. The Ihumatao protest is about a company Fletchers wanting to build 500 houses on the land. But the local Iwi and Maori refuse because there ancestors used to live there.

Rube Goldberg

LI: to learn about STEAM
For the rest of the term we are doing STEAM for inquiry. Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. We first looked at who Rube Goldberg was, we had to find out the 5 W's and H about him. Rube Goldberg invented the Rube Goldberg machine, which does simple task in a over-complicated manner.

We then made a Rube Goldberg machine using body's. We had to try to brainstorm on how we could do it. We had to try to include a lot of things. Like rolls, turns, and more. We had to try to do the human Rube Goldberg machine being blindfolded as well.

Kiwican

LI: to understand emotions
Our topic is Resilience which is coping with challenges and bouncing back and our theme is Emotions. Which are our feelings. Our energizer was trying to match emotions, while rating it from okay - worst. For example if my emotion was scared, I'd have to match it with terrified or panic. Then I'd have to rate them form least worst - worst.

Then we talked about how could affect us, but also how they could affect other people. We then talked about how emotions could also change us a bit.

For our activity we were given cards, which were small plays. We had to act them out. Each play had a meaning.

Commenting

LI: to learn how to smartcomment
I commented on Jay Lee's blog - post. She was blogging about her doing Basic Fact Boxes. On my comment I complimented her, gave her feedback, and asked her a question.

Swimming

LI: to learn water safety
For Kiwsport we are doing swimming which is really useful because it could save our lives one day, plus we are living in a country surrounded by water. We first did streamlines which was have our arms up together, and we had to do a lap. We then tried to do it without taking a breath and doing it the whole way. We then added arm strokes to the stream lines. We then floated on our backs and started kicking. Next we did the streamlines with the arm strokes, and then we had to count to six seconds, then switch to floating on our backs and kicking.

Basic Fact Boxes

LI: to remember basic facts
I took on the Speed Demon Challenge. I did Multiplication and it took me two minutes and 37 seconds to finish all the equations.

Persuasive Speech Plan

LI: to create a persuasive speech
Persuasion means to try to make someone think like you or agree with you. A rhetorical question is a question to not be answered but to be thought about. We had to brainstorm topics and mine was "Longer Recess or Lunchtime". In the persuasive speech plan we had to write a rhetorical question, then state our opinion, we then had to list some facts, and say the solution to the problem.

Albert Einstein

LI: to summarise a text
For SSR Selfie I read "Albert Einstein". It was such an amazing book very interesting and enjoyable. There were a bunch of interesting in the book, like the Manhattan Project.

Ihumatao

LI: to identify the main ideas of a text
The main ideas are the big points in the text. So our example was to do a current situation in New Zealand. Which is the Ihumatao protest. We had this slide deck and in the slides we had to write 5 W's in Ihumatao, the Where which was seeing the distance and time from our school to Ihumatao in bus, car, walking, and cycling. Then we had boxes to fill in to see the relationships with the Who's. Then we had to write the definition of some of the maori words.

Adding and subtracting fraction word problems (WIP)

LI: to learn fractions of sets
We learnt about fractions of sets. For example we learnt about equations on stuff like how much is 3/4 of 28. After we learnt it we were suggested on doing creations related to fractions. My creation is doing addition and subtraction fraction word problems. When adding or subtracting fractions you should never do anything to the denominator. But should operate with the numerator.
