Silver Attitude - Sophie Pascoe

LI: to learn about someone who has gone through rough times but is an inspiration to many people globally

For one of my Silver Attitude activies we had to learn about someone who has gone through rough times in their life but still are an inspiration to people around the nation and the globe. The person I picked was Sophie Pascoe. A New Zealand Paralympic Swimmer, an one of New Zealands biggest treasures. Up above in my DLO shows what she went through and that she was able to go through all the barriers in her life.

Silver Attitude - Public Health Nurses

LI: to explain the part that the Public Health Nurses do at school

For one of my Silver Attitude activities we had to explain what the Public Health Nurses do in our schools. The Public Health Nurses are the people who make sure we are healthy and ready for our learning at school. They regularly check up on us to make sure we are all healthy. They take us down to the Medic Cube to examine us and help us with any problems we are having.

Countries in Te Reo Maori

LI: to expand our vocabulary and knowledge in Te Reo Maori

For Te Reo Maori we were learning about different coutries and the names of them in Te Reo Maori. The countries we did were the countries of the continent South America, and countries a part of the United Kingdom. We were learning these different words with the help of our teacher Whaea Ode, and gave us quick activities to do in Te Reo Maori. For example having a small conversation with eachother.

Algebra

LI: to learn about algebra

For Maths we were learning about Algebra. When learning it we learnt about BEDMAS. BEDMAS is a rule or a type of law in Mathematics. BEDMAS stands for: Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, then Subtraction. When doing an equation you have to use BEDMAS, and you have to do it in the order that it was listed in. In the equation if there was brackets, you had to start with the brackets. If there were exponents you had to solve the exponents and so on.

Tech Reflection

LI: to learn how to construct our own toy

For Tech we were continuing our builds at Tech with Mr Grundy, at Tamaki College. I was making a phone holder. I was able to finish my joints and was able to clean it up. Make it look good. As I was finishing up I created more designs that could help me practise my measurements, angles, and how to express my creativity in a way.  It was really fun doing this because we were able to help each other and learn new things about wood crafting. Such as creating joints, how to use different tools, and how to create our own designs.

Shameful stain on NZs History

LI: To evaluate (form an opinion) the text and respond to the provocation

We read the article “Shameful stain on NZ’s history”, an article about New Zealand’s History on the racial discrimination on the Pasifika community. Our provocation was “Should the Government of today apologise for the dawn raids of yesterday?”.

In order to respond to this provocation we needed to evaluate the text by looking deeply at both perspectives. A perspective is point of view, or the opinion of one side. When exploring both sides of this provocation, we formed our personal opinions based on the information we read, and the information we already knew. In our DLO we have shared our different perspectives and have made an informed collaborative response to the question we were asked. We all agree that an apology is owed. It is important that this happens. What we didn’t agree on was who should give the apology. Our current government was not the party who organised the dawn raids. The party who are historically responsible should be the ones to step up and show remorse.

ASB Getwise

LI: to be wise with your money

Today we had a representative from ASB named Marlon from the ASB Getwise programme, came to explain to us about how we should think before we spend money. We had to stop and think, to make a good decision. We were learning this by playing a game. We started off with $1800 to go on a trip to Fiji, and we had to try to buy all the neccesities needed to go on the trip such as plane tickets, passports, accomodation and much more. But doing this we had to try to get as much fun points as possible.

This was really fun doing and I wish to do this again.
