LI: to take a virtual tour of Aotearoa
For this virtual tour I took a trip to the Auckland Zoo. In my slide it consists of the activities for Activity 1 and the Bonus activity. The Infographic is the DLO for my Activity 2. An Infographic is a type of poster that mostly consists of graphics or images. So the graphics or images kind of tell the information about the poster, hence the name Infographic. For Activity 1 I had to use my smart searching skills to find out the benefits of the Friend of Zoo annual pass, how much it cost, and how much it would cost if each of my family had one. For Activity 2 I had to make an Infographic about an animal I would see at the Auckland Zoo. For the Bonus Activity I had to write about the history of Zookeeping.

Thank You Letter (Silver Respect)

LI: to write a Thank you letter to a teacher or staff member
For one of the activities for the Silver Respect badge we had to write a thank you letter to a teacher or a staff member. The thank you letter I wrote was to Mrs Anderson, who teaches in Learning Space 2. I wrote to her because she has been really challenging me and has helped me so much in a short span of time. In the short span of time she has taught me so much.

Respected Leaders (Silver Respect)

LI: to research a Respected Leader
For one of the activities for the Silver Respect Badge we had to research about Respect Leader. A respected leader is a person who is responsible, and is well respected. The Respected Leader I researched on was Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela was one of the South African Presidents, and was protesting against Segregation. Segregation is the separation between people with different races or colour.

Aretha Franklin: Respect (Silver Respect)

LI: to research Aretha Franklins Respect
For one of the activities for the Silver Respect Badge, we had to research the song RESPECT by Aretha Franklin. In this DLO (Digital Learning Object) I am talking about what the song meant, and what Aretha Franklin wanted to represent. Aretha Franklin was a famous music idol back in the days and was really good at what she was doing. When she released her song RESPECT, many people wondered what Aretha Franklin was trying to say.

Role Models

LI: to learn about role models
The topic for this week, we were talking about Role Models and Leadership. Role Models are people who inspire and are responsible. They are people who keep you motivated. Leaders are people who take the lead, and are responsible. We then started talking about our own Role Models or Leaders in our life. Their were a variety of different Role Models, such as their Moms, Uncles, and even friends. For our activity we played a game called Paint the Picture. We were in groups, and had to become a car, or plane, or basketball hoop and much more. This game related to being a Leader or Role Model because when we got mixed up or confused someone would take the lead.

Explorers vs Adventurer

LI:l to learn the difference between Explorers and Adventurers
For Inquiry we made a Venn Diagram sorting people out if they are an Explorer or an Adventurer. There was also place for people we though were both an Explorer and a Adventurer. An Explorer is a person who is ordered to find unknown or unfamiliar land. An Adventurer is someone who feels excitement or joy when going out on a journey. On the list we had people like Sir Peter Blake, Sir David Attenborough, Captain James Cook, and Christopher Colombus. We even had fictional characters like Dora and Moana.

Maths Questions

LI: solve addition problems with tenths by changing one number into a whole number
This week for Maths we created two DLOs (Digital Learning Object) showing how we solved two team challenges that involved adding decimals. Using the most effective strategy we found the answer. The most  effective strategies were written algorithms and place value. In this session we were learning rounding and compensating. The two questions we tried to solve were:
5.75 + 2.0 = 7.75 x 12 = ?
218.99 + 109.85 = ?

Cybersmart - Control F

LI: to learn about Ctrl F
For Cybersmart we made a DLO (Digital Learning Object) on Gourds. When researching we used Control F which was made to write a word in, and when you wrote the word, the word you typed in would show up. When smart searching we had to search with a key word or keyphrase. When finding the information we had to use Control F and then skim and scan the information. Skimming and Scanning is reading fast, to look for the information you need.

Exploring Provocations

LI: to explore Provocations
This week we have bee exploring both sides of a provocation. A Provocation is a action or speech that triggers a really strong feeling for a topic. A Provocation is usually in book titles to hook in the reader and trigger there feels for the topic of the book. Our Provocation was "Should New Zealand become a Cashless Society?". A Cashless Society is a economy that uses credit cards or technology to pay rather then paying with actual notes and coins. After considering both perspectives (or sides) we think that New Zealand should not be a Cashless Society because there are people who don't know how to use it, or they just can't afford it. It also is a waste of money, because we pay a company to make money for us and distribute it around New Zealand. There are also some Pros on Cashless Society but the Cons have to many drawbacks.

Sophie Pascoe (Silver Attitude)

For this activity we researched on someone who has a positive attitude despite face difficulties in many ways. I picked Sophie Pascoe who is a Paralympic swimmer who has a physical disability. Sadly when she was little she had to get her leg amputated because she got her leg ran - over my a lawn - mower. But that hasn't stopped her from being one of the best swimmers in the world. Sophie Pascoe has won many gold medals an awards.

Public Health Nurses (Silver Attitude)

LI:l to learn about public health nurses
For my first silver confidence care award activity I've done an explanation on why Public Health Nurses are so important. They are so important because they keep the kids healthy, so they can come back to school and learn. They really care, so they come down to every class to see if any kids have a sore throat, or rashes and more. They also have a Medi - Cube which is a space they use to help and care for the kids.

Leadership

LI: to learn about leadership
For Kiwi can we were talking about Leadership. We were talking about what leaders needed to overcome, and what is a confident leader. They need to overcome fear, embarrassment, anxiety, emotions and the negative outcomes of possibilities. Leaders also need to be brave and take risks. We also shared our personal leaders in our lives, like our parents, or even someone famous. Leadership means being responsible, being confident, and patient. A confident leader inspires people to do their best, and is a role model. Kiwi Can really made us think about all the leaders in our life and around the world.

Maths Team Challenge

LI: to figure out our maths equations.
For our Maths task we made a DLO (Digital Learning Objects) on one of our team challenge questions. On this DLO (Digital Learning Objects) we showed the equation we were trying to figure out, the strategy we used to figure out the equation, and answered the questions on the equation. This question was about figuring out the ages of the three men, who were Andrew, Brad, and Charles.

Places Named By Early Explorers

LI: to learn about the places named by early explorers
This week for Inquiry we made a map about the named places by early explorers who came to New Zealand. The people who named places in New Zealand are Abel Tasman, Captain James Cook, and Kupe. Abel Tasman is a Dutch explorer. Captain James Cook is a British explorer, and naval officer. Kupe is a great fisherman, and the chief of his tribe. They all are explorers who came to New Zealand by accident. They all came to New Zealand in different places, some came to the North or South.

Places are named because so people know the area. The reasons some places are named by the finder is because you can show, you were the first one to find it, so you can be respected, so you can be famous, or so you can even boost your ego. Some places are even named after friends to show honour. But most are named after important people so they could get paid. Places are also named after the appearance, for example Cloudy Bay is called that because it is cloudy. They're even named after events like Poverty Bay which is called that because the place had no freshwater or resources so it was called Poverty Bay.

Shared Wordbank

LI: to learn new sets of vocabulary
This week in Reading one of our activities we did was a Shared Wordbank. A Shared Wordbank is an activity that helps us grow our vocabulary and have a better understanding of the word. We read a book called Charting our Islands, while reading it as a group. When we finished reading a page we shared words we didn’t understand. On our shared wordbank, we added the words we didn't understand or know the meaning of, we included synonyms, word families and a clear definition.

Past and Present

LI: to learn about the problems of sailing back in the days
This DLO (Digital Learning Object) is about the problems back in the days when explorers were sailing. In this activity we had to compare Kupes waka and his problems, Captain James Cooks Endeavour and his problems, and compared to our modern styles of transportation and our problems. With this we tried to compare those three things and pick which of the three is the best way to sail to Tahiti. We also did reciprocal reading and made a summary. Each person had a job to do, Vocabulary Clarifiers, Questioners, Summarisers, Predictor and the Leader.

Math Questions

LI: to learn how to cooperate to achieve something
In our Thinking Teams we cooperated by doing Math Questions together. We had a bunch of facts about the ASB Marathon in 2017. We used those facts to make questions for ourselves to solve. There were a variety of facts from the ASB Marathon. The facts told us how many marathons there were, how many entries, how many countries competed, how many charities and much more. One of the questions my Thinking Team made were "There were a total of 13,898 entries. There were a total of 10,500 bananas. How many people did not get a banana?".

We solved the question by adding by place value:
Strategy:
13,898 - 10,500 = ????
13,000 - 10,000 = 3000
800 - 500 = 300
98 - 00 = 98
3000 + 300 + 98 = 3,398
13,898 - 10,500 = 3,398

There were a total of 3,398 runners who did not get a banana.
