Making a Tunnel

LI: to see how tunnels are capable of their purpose
This week for Inquiry we made a Tunnel. The materials or equipment we used were:
Straws
Spaghetti
Tape
Rubber bands
Glad Wrap
When we all made our tunnels we buried it in sand and out a little car in it. We saw how each and everyone are strong tunnels. We all tested each tunnel from each group. We saw the differences in each one, and how we could've built it better or plan it better. This was a group activity. I was in a group of five.

Persuasive Argument

LI: to write a persuasive speech
This week for Writing we wrote another argument. We did an argument about who would win in a fight. A Manticore or Asian Dragon. We had to write a full exposition about it. We wrote it in a persuasive planner. The structure was OREO. O meant for opinion, R meant reason, E meant explanation, and the other O meant opinion again. So when we finished our persuasive writing about who would win, we had to recite our exposition. We also had teams. So Asian Dragon Team and the Manticore Team. We had a scoreboard about who persuaded Mr Wong most. Whoever had the most points won.

Kiwi Sport

LI: to learn survival skills in the water
This week was the last week of Swimming. What we did first was swimming on our backs. We did that, and saw how long we could swim backwards. The after that we did rotation. Rotation is really helpful. The reason is when you swim on your front side it's faster, so when you swim on your front side, you get tired, so you go on your back resting until you have the energy to swim on your front again.

Later we did this swimming move called the "Jelly Fish". So we swim on our back then: stretch your legs out, tuck it back in, then spread it out on the sides, then push your feet together to make a miniwave. We did that a couple of times.

After we did the Jelly Fish we did some swimming underwater activities. So what we did first was throw a toy underwater and then we would dive or swim underwater, then take it. After that we also went through a hula hoop underwater.

Then after that we played a game. We got a noodle and someone would be a horse and the other behind the horse was the rider.

Odysseus The Great Warrior

LI: to identify the purpose of narratives and to identify the underlying morals/themes/explanations in myths, legends, and fairytales
This week for Readings Myths, Legends, and Fairytales we read books about real legends. Our choices of books were Odysseus the Great Warrior, Born To Fly, and Erik the Viking Raider. Our DLO was really complex. We needed to talk about out short novel. Our DLO took two weeks to make the DLO.

Tunnels

LI: to learn about tunnels
This week for Inquiry we were learning about Tunnels. We got in partners and had to talk about the history of tunnels. Our DLO (Digital Learning Object) was to make a poster or presentation about the history of tunnels. We wrote about what are tunnels, how do tunnels work, how to build a tunnel. We got the information from some sites. We also added some videos on our DLO (Digital Learning Object) to give more information on tunnels.

Exposition

LI: to write an exposition (persuasive text)
This week for writing we had to write a full exposition. Our topic was who was more devious, Leprechaun or Genie. Another was who was more dangerous, Kraken or Leviathan. So I picked Leviathan vs Kraken. We had to use all the techniques and things we learned to make a exposition. So we had to write the whole structure:
Opinion
Reason
Explanation
Opinion
We also had to incude Emotive Language. So adjectives, adverbs, nouns, and verbs.

Kiwi Sport

LI: to learn survival skills in the water
This week for swimming I went to my Instructor James and we first started on rotation. We had to do three arm strokes, or six kicks in a row then switch on your back. How we did it was you always have to keep your body extremely flat. So when you turn make sure your hips don't point down or they will weigh you down. So when you successfully turn on your back stay flat. After that we did a couple of freestyle arms.

Later we did a swimming move that helps you go underwater called "Duck Dive". The reason it's called "Dick Dive" is because when ducks go underwater they don't touch the floor. So how we do it is we lift our head or upper body up as high as we can and go dive down. We swam first and then in the middle of the pool we would try to do the Duck Dive and swim to the other platform.

After that we did some Kick Practices. So when we would do the Kick Practices we would do slow arms but fast kicks. The reason we do slow arms rather fast arms is you will get tired easily and waste you energy, another reason is that you have much more control with your arms. An addition to the Kick Practices we did Dolphin Kicks or Dives. Dolphin Kicks or Dive is when your legs are together, and you go underwater and wiggle your body. So you legs will be like the tail of a dolphin.

Reading Notes

LI: to understand the text better
This week for Reading we blogged our Reading Notes. The purpose of Reading Notes is to let us understand the text more. We had to do specific reading strategies before reading, during reading, or after reading. The book I chose was called Odysseus the Great Warrior. Odysseus is a legend.

Time Vocabulary

LI: to convert between analog and digital time
This week for Maths we did more about Time. Our DLO (Digital Learning Object) was to write a list of Time Vocabulary's. While we wrote the words that are in our Time Vocabulary we also had to write the definition. I got some words from a site called Enchanted Learning. There were also some words I never knew like horology, and other words.

Defensive Structures and Bombs

LI: to learn about bombs and structures
This week we had a visitor named Mr Ching. He taught us about Dumb Bombs and Smart Bombs. Dumb Bombs are like grenades. The Dumb Bombs go where you aim them. When you shoot them you have no control. Smart Bombs are bombs that you can control when you launch them.

After that we watched a video of the results of missiles, and shock waves. Shock waves are the air that are really strong and can destroy you. We also learned something about a sonic boom. A sonic boom is when the air compresses together and releases and makes a big clap, or boom sound.

After that we first got into groups of five and had to make a structure that is strong enough to stop the structure. Our materials were paper, tape, scissors, and straws. We had to make a structure to be strong enough to protect a helicopter. When we finished we had to test our structures. We simulated a shock wave using boards.

Kiwi Can

LI: to show perseverance and resilience
This week was the last week we were talking about perseverance and resilience. What we first talked about was what is perseverance. Perseverance is when you never give up, because when you try not to give up there is always disappointment, and frustration coming to your way. After we talked about resilience, resilience is kind of part of perseverance. It is because you never give up and bounce back to your challenge.

After that we got into our energizer. Which was called "Tangle". So first one person would be in and have to tag someone. Then they would have to make a chain when tagging more people. But only the two people at the end of the chain can tag. We played two rounds. After that we talked about how we didn't show perseverance and resilience in that activity. We didn't show perseverance because people started giving up because of frustration. How people got frustrated were because people in the chain would start to go for different people and the chain would break or go in different ways.

Then after that we started playing a game called "Invisible Touch". We had two teams and they would have to be in a line parallel to each other. One of the Kiwi can leaders would say a number and the amount of numbers they say, the amount of people in the front have to go. Someone also has to say that someone had the invisible ball. You can't pass the ball to your teammate. The only way you can get the ball from someone is tagging them. Then you would have the ball. You can't tag back to the person who tagged you. After that we talked about how it frustrated us and how we didn't show perseverance and resilience.

Duffy Visit

LI: to see how reading gives a amazing result
Yesterday we had Duffy Assembly and our guest was Micheal Mulipola. He was a comic artist. He told us that when he was little, he wanted to be a comic artist. So that was what he became. He showed us a lot of his work on a slide show. His inspiration was from School Journals. Micheal even illustrates School Journals and we have them too.

He also told us that he was in big gaming event. He was playing Tekken against other people. He ended up losing but he was in the twelve percent of best Tekken player. So he was a semi professional tekken player.

Micheal was also a big wrestling fan. His favorite wrestling star was The Rock. Micheal also has illustrated books for the WWE. He has illustrated some WWE books and a magazine. Sol Micheal kinda worked for the WWE. Micheal also said he was a Professional Wrestler. Micheal was part of the NZ Professional Wrestling Entertainment. He was once the Heavyweight champion and had the tag team championship. He has also me WWE superstars like Samoa Joe, Sami Zayn, AJ Styles and more.

Then later he gave us each class a box full of our duffy books.

Commenting

LI: to learn how to smartcomment
Today I commented on Jaydens blogpost. He was blogging about what he did on Inquiry. I blogged on his work and told him what he should keep doing and what he should change on his blogpost.

Kiwi Sport

LI: to simulate and experience swimming in a river and ocean
This week for swimming we simulated and experienced swimming in a river or ocean. What we first did was that everyone had to walk and swim through a wave and splashes of water. How we simulated and made the waves were us boards. Everyone had a board and one person would go through the middle and, that person would have to go through the splashes and the waves.

When we did that the instructors made another wave or current and we had to swim through it. It was really hard and almost no one could go through the current. Then when all of us got to the other side of  the current. After we had to swim with the current, so the current could take us.

Later we all went to the little pool. Then we got into a circle standing up, held hands, then rotated. When we did that for a while, we would stop and lay down. Then we would be moving when we don't move ourselves. How we moved was because we made the whirlpool and it would take us in circles.

Keyboarding Tutor

LI: to learn how to type fast
This week I went on this site called Keyboarding Tutor. It shows you the home row keys. It also shows you a bunch of letters or words and you have to type them while on the home row key position. If you type the letter or word wrong it turns red to show you, you got it wrong.

Daily 6 Multiplication

LI: to memorize my multiplication facts
This week I did one of my Daily 6. I did my Multiplication. I did my seven times tables, and my eight times tables. It is getting easier for me to do my Times Tables because I keep practicing it and writing it to keep it in my brain.

Emotive Language

LI: to write informative but emotive paragraphs.
This week we learned about emotive and informative. Emotive language is normally in a persuasive speech, as well as the informative language. Emotive language is there to let the audience of reader feel what the teller is saying. So the tiger killed the prey, then an emotive one would be "The stealthy tiger quickly killed the baby deer unwittingly". So when you hear that, the audience or reader would feel sorry, or sad for the baby deer. In that sentence I also added a adjective which was stealthy, and a adverb which was quickly, and baby deer which was a noun. Informative is when a speech has a lot of information on their statement.

Kiwi Can

LI: to learn how to persevere
This week was the second week for Perseverance. Perseverance is when you are frustrated and you need something calm yourself down. We also talked about how we could calm ourselves down so we said things like: listen to music, meditate, breath in and out, and more.

After that we went into our energizer which was called Add Master. It was like master and rock, paper, scissors combined. So we would be in a circle, then one person would have to compete with someone in the circle, then they would have to put out a number of fingers, and the first one to add up both numbers and say it continued around the circle. How that showed us perseverance was when we would add the numbers up but get the answer wrong, being too slow to say the answer, and a lot more.

Then we talked, who has been frustrated. Then we talked about more stuff on how to calm ourselves down like: reading a book, sit down and think, sleep, eat and more stuff.

Later we went into our activity. Which was called "Card Tower". We got into four groups and had to make a tower with the cards we had. But we couldn't be frustrated and had to show perseverance. But when we started the game everyone was already frustrated. The game showed us even the littlest things can make people frustrated.

Roads, Highways, & Motorways

LI: to learn the differences between Motorways, Roads, and Highways
This week we were learning the differences about Motorways, Highways, and Road. We also had to look at the differences between Roads, Streets, Crescents, Places, Closes, Lanes, Arcades, Drives, and  Avenue. Our DLO (Digital Learning Object) was to make a presentation about differences between Highways, Motorways, and Roads, and also the different types of roads. We learned all of these by looking at videos that gave us a lot of information. One video was about ho to build a road, how to design a road, and the different types of roads.

Piece of Paradise Lessons

LI: to identify the purpose of narratives and to identify the underlying morals/themes/explanations in myths, legends, and fairytale
This week we also did Pacific Stories. This week I read the book Piece of Paradise. My Must Do was to make a DLO (Digital Learning Object) talking about the lessons in the story. In the story it had to include some movement, animation, video or audio. I also did my Reading Notes to help me understand more about the text. I think Piece of Paradise is a myth because in a myth it usually involves gods or demi gods. In Piece of Paradise there are two gods. The Sun God and Rain God.

Analog and Digital Time

LI: convert between analogue and digital clocks
This week we were learning about clocks. So we learned how to tell time. What we did for our Must Do was to tell out typical day in time order. So we would wake up in 7 o'clock or eating breakfast at 8:00 and more. We learned that AM meant Anti Meridian and PM stands for Post Meridian.

Tongan Language Week Avatar

LI: to embrace the tongan language
This week for Tongan Language week Learning Space One went to Learning Space Two to do Tongan Language week together. So we made a tongan avatar. Boy or girl so but we did both. We needed them to also wear traditional tongan clothes. While we did that we also had to do something that is involved with tongan language week so we did numbers.

Daily 6 Multiplication

LI: to learn my times tables
This week I did my Times tables for daily six. I did my three and four times tables. It was pretty easy because I just had to add three every time. I will also do my three and four divisions.

Keyboarding

LI: to learn how to type with the homerow keys
This week I was using this keyboarding tutor site. It taught and showed me how to use the homerow keys. So there were a bunch of letters and words and we had to type them with the home row key position. When we typed the wrong letter or word, that letter or word would be red to show us we got something wrong.

Perimeter and Area

LI: to learn about perimeter and area's
This week what we did for Maths were Perimeter and Area activities. We had five different stations of the perimeter and area activities, we also had to do the five different perimeter and area with a group of four. On each station we either had to cut, measure with a ruler, use a calculator, use our prior knowledge, and more. Some involved more than the other. So for example on one station, we had to talk or do stuff more about perimeter then area, and more than area then perimeter.

Urban Plannning

LI: to learn the history about pedestrian crossing, roundabouts, and traffic lights
This week we made a screencastify about the history of pedestrian crossing, traffic lights, and roundabouts. We had to talk about who was the inventor of each, how did it change through time and more. We also had to talk about how we think they will change throughout time. When we finished we would show our video/screencastify/presentation to the class, then we would get feedback on how to make it better, what was wrong, and the problems, from Mr Ogilvie.

Persuasive Text

LI: to write a persuasive argument
This week we wrote a persuasive arguement. We had to write the statement then our reasons and explanation to back it up. The structure of a persuasive text is O.R.E.O. It stands for Opinion, Reasons, Explanation, and Opinion again. So we had to write the argument then make a screencastify talking about our persuasive. We also needed pictures. But the pictures had to be relevant to our text.

Kiwi Sport

LI: to learn how to be safe in the water
Today straight away my group did sculling on our back, we tried to do it as long as possible. Then we sculled feet first. We couldn't kick because it would take us backwards. Our feet had to be straight and together. Also when we scull we should always put our fingers together.

Then we started to tread water. So we went to the deep end, and had to float in the water while doing a sitting position. Our legs had to be widely separated, and rotating. Same with our hands. We also have to lean back a little bit to help us float a bit more.

Then we jumped into the pool, we weren't going to do a cannon - ball or a belly - flop. What we were going to do was pretty similar to the pencil dive. We just had to do a small jump then swim back to the wall.

After that we tried to swim as far as possible doing the rotation. So we would swim in our front doing any kind of stroke, so dolphin dive, streamline, torpedo arms, and more. So when we got tired at our front we would just rotate and float on out backs. We did that a for a couple of times. Then we have done our lesson.

Inquiry Games

LI: to learn how these traffic control games teach us about urban planning
This week we were playing these games that were about traffic control. Two of the games were about Traffic Control. So we had cars going across the road. We had full control over the traffic light. But if we made a mistake the cars would crash. The other game was a game that we had to make tracks or roads so cars could go. It was really fun. We also finished up our Urban Planning Screencastify and showed it to the class. We had to talk about in the screencastify about the history of Pedestrian Crossing, Traffic Lights, and Roundabouts.

Sons Of Ma'afu

LI: to identify the purpose of narratives and to identify the underlying morals/themes/explanations in myths, legends, and fairytales
This week we learned about Pacific Stories. There were for choices of stories. There was Son's of Ma'afu, Piece of Paradise, In the beginning, and Kakangora. I picked Son's of Ma'afu. I also did my Reading Notes to give me an understanding of the text. So then I had to do my Must Do. My must do was to tell what were the lessons in the story. I had to have at least some movement, audio, or video. I think Sons Of Ma'afu is a legend because there are people doing some memorable. The memorable thing or action they did was that they killed the two most fierce, and dangerous beast in Tonga.
