Rosa Park

LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. The task was to describe the problem African Americans had in the 1950s, and talk about what Rosa Parks did and how people reacted. Back in the 1950s Caucasians and African Americans were separated, they went to different schools, toilets, different areas of a restaurant, and even sat at different parts of the bus. So there were a bunch of protests and many icons such as MLK and Rosa Parks. But everything changed on December 1st 1955. Rosa Parks went on a bus and a white passenger went on the bus, the driver asked Rosa to go to the back because that's where the black passengers usually sat. Rosa Parks refused so she got arrested, when she was asked to pay the fine she refused because she said the segregation laws were not fair. The white passengers and the black passengers were shocked and surprised that she refused to give up her seat. Then African Americans in America started supporting Rosa and did protests.

School Strike for Climate

LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This is a task from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. The task was to list three things we learned from the School Strike 4 Climate Australia, and then include a photograph of us doing one thing to help the environment. This task was based off of Greta Thunberg. She is saying that Climate Change isn't just real but it is a crisis. Climate Change is an increase to the temperature of our planet. Warmer temperature causes natural disasters such as flooding, bush-fires, sometimes even the extinctions of animals.

The first thing I learnt is that Climate Change is a big deal and is making huge impacts onto our planet like natural disasters. The second thing I learnt is that people are so serious about this they are sacrificing time off of their education just to let the world hear it. Lastly I learnt that politicians and the government aren't really doing anything about Climate Change.

My photo is me picking up rubbish.

This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. The task was to try to figure out what age was Jessa Rogers was when she won the NAIDOC Youth of the Year award in 2010. But instead of just saying the year, we are saying it in years, months and days. So for example 13 years, 11 months, 22 days. We then had to state our answer and explain how we did it.

Jessa Rogers was born in April 7th 1985 and won the award on the 9th of July 2010. I first started off by counting the years up to 2010. The year 1985 - 2010 is 25 years. Then from April the 7th I counted up to the 9th of July. Which is 3 months and 3 days. So my final answer is 25 years, 3 months, and 3 days.

My Treasures

LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey.
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. The task was to write three things that are treasures to us and why we cherish it. This task was based off of Sophie Pascoe. She is a para swimmer, which is a swimmer that has a physical disability. Despite having a physical disability she dominates in swimming. She is a national treasure to New Zealand. A national treasure is someone or something that is very important to a country.

The first treasure to me is a bracelet my Grandmother from the Dads side gave me. She used to wear it when she was young, and when I finally visited Burma she gave it to me. Since then I haven't taken it off. The second treasure is a guitar my Dad gave me when he was little. He used to and still does play the guitar and now like my Dad I play the guitar. The last one is actually a photo of my deceased Grandfather. I cherish it because I never really got to meet him or talk to him.

Name Change

LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - maker. The task was to imagine that I could change my name into whatever I wanted. This task was based of Muhammad Ali's name change. His name used to be Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr but when he converted to Muslim he changed it into Muhammad Ali.

To be honest I wouldn't really like to change my name. I would just keep it as Chris. I would keep it like this because my parents gave me that name. So its special to them and special to me.

Making a Racket

LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. The task was to talk about the three things we learned from two videos and one thing we would still like to know. The two videos were about Gender Pay Gap in Tennis, and about Serena and Venus Williams fighting for equality in pay. For example Venus Williams made $80 millions dollars in her career while winning 23 grand slams, while the highest paid male Novak Djokovic makes $100 million despite only winning 12 grand slams. So the gender pay gap is pretty huge.

The first thing I learnt is that the Gender Pay Gap is a huge controversial topic.
The second thing I learnt is that the Gender Pay Gap is bias to men.
The third thing I learnt is that the Gender Pay Gap isn't really fair, because if two people did the same job, same hours, but one of them still get paid more its just not going to be fair.
The on thing I would like to know is do men get the favour.

Dream Job

Gender Pay Gap

LI: to complete the teaser activities
This is a teaser activity from the Summer Learning Journey. The topic for this years Summer Learning Journey is Changemakers. This task is about the Gender Pay Gap controversy. The Gender Pay Gap is when men and women do the same job but the one of the genders have a higher pay. An example is the New Zealand Black Ferns which is the NZ national Womens Rugby Team. They are a very successful team having won a recordn five Rugby World Cups. Even though they are super successful they have only just become professional rugby players who get paid. But they still get paid less then the mens rugby team. So this task is to talk about he Gender Pay Gap in sport and what I think of it.

I think that the Gender Pay Gap isn't fair. Just because they are a different gender they shouldn't be paid less. If Women and Men did the same sport or job they still should be paid equally. For example what if the womens team were more successful then the mens team, but the men still got paid more. That wouldn't be fair. Women work just as hard as men so they should be able to get paid equally.
