Indigenous People

LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. This task was to look at a bunch of Indigenous Communities being the Maya People, Aboriginal Australians, Papuan People, The Ainu People, and the Inuit People. We had to pick two of the indigenous communities and write down two interesting facts on them.

I picked the Papuan People and the Aboriginal Australians.
The Papuan People have over 800 languages but their three main ones are Melaneisan, Tok Pisin, and Motu English. About 95.6% of the Papuan People are Christian. The Aboriginal Australians are thought to be the oldest populations of humans living outside of Africa. Aboriginal Australians hae over 250 distinct language groups.

  1. Hi Chris, Mrs Collins from Manaiakalani again commenting on blogs over term break. Well done on posting and participating in the SLJ this year. I really like the information you shared about celebrating diversity, could you flip it into a DLO or infographic? I learnt something new too! Keep blogging, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep up your learning over the school break!

  3. Kia ora Chris! Olive here from the Summer Learning Journey. How are you doing today?

Thank you for your blog post! I really enjoyed reading about the Papuan and the Aboriginal people. Did you know that Aboriginal people share their history through art? They have beautiful dot-styles that they use to communicate ancestral stories and their traditional heritage. It's honestly stunning work. Ka pai on all your effort, it's clear you've put a lot of thought and research into this.

Remember the end of the Summer Learning Journey is next Friday 24th January! Keep up the blogging, commenting and enthusiasm!

    Ngā mihi,
    Olive

  5. Hello Chris! I found this activity actually pretty interesting. It was cool to learn about these people and communities. But my attention was mostly drawn to the word "Indigenous Communities". Do you know what this means?...I was really intrigued by your facts, especially how Papuan people have over 800 languages! That's amazing...great work Chris!

  6. Hi Chris,
I like the facts that you have found about the Papuan and Aboriginal people. I had no idea that there were over 800 languages from the Papuan people. I also had no idea that the majority of them are actually Christian. You've done an excellent job, keep up the good work.
