Rosa Park

LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - makers. The task was to describe the problem African Americans had in the 1950s, and talk about what Rosa Parks did and how people reacted. Back in the 1950s Caucasians and African Americans were separated, they went to different schools, toilets, different areas of a restaurant, and even sat at different parts of the bus. So there were a bunch of protests and many icons such as MLK and Rosa Parks. But everything changed on December 1st 1955. Rosa Parks went on a bus and a white passenger went on the bus, the driver asked Rosa to go to the back because that's where the black passengers usually sat. Rosa Parks refused so she got arrested, when she was asked to pay the fine she refused because she said the segregation laws were not fair. The white passengers and the black passengers were shocked and surprised that she refused to give up her seat. Then African Americans in America started supporting Rosa and did protests.

  4. Hi Chris! This is a great description of what happened with the Rosa Parks incident. I appreciate the detail and effort you put into this activity. Rosa had a right refusing to move, and she was definitely standing for the right reason. What would you have done in if you were in that position? Keep up the great blogging!

  5. Hello Chris!,
What a active and positive start of week 2. You have a descriptive description about the situation of Rosa Parks. I think Rosa Parks was a great activist, standing up for her race colour. I like how you have explained what you did for this Summer Learning Journey activity. Do you think everyone should be treated equally, no matter what race colour or gender?, because I think everyone deserves to be treated the same.

    Good Job

  7. Hey Chris,
Your information on Rosa Parks is great. I found it amazing on how she stood up for her rights in the face of what was pretty much the United States government and their laws. It was pretty brave of her to refuse to move seats and to not pay the fine. How do you think she felt?
