Name Change

LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
This task is from the Summer Learning Journey. This years topic for the Summer Learning Journey is Change - maker. The task was to imagine that I could change my name into whatever I wanted. This task was based of Muhammad Ali's name change. His name used to be Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr but when he converted to Muslim he changed it into Muhammad Ali.

To be honest I wouldn't really like to change my name. I would just keep it as Chris. I would keep it like this because my parents gave me that name. So its special to them and special to me.

  1. Kia ora Chris,

It is lovely meeting you! I am so excited that you are joining us for the Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020. Have you done this programme before?

This is my first year joining the Summer Learning Journey, and I am so excited that I get to read over the Manaiakalani blogs.

I’m really looking forward to summer, aren't you? In my spare time I like spending time at the beach and hanging out with my friends. I also enjoy going for walks and I absolutely love cooking and baking. What are you looking forward to doing this summer?

I liked the way you thought about this activity. It's hard to imagine a different name, right?! I think Chris is a special name as well! When I think about changing my name I can't think of anything... mainly because I can't imagine getting used to a whole NEW name. Imagine someone calling out your name and you don't realise they are talking to you.

Do you think people should be able to change their name if they want to at any time? Or do you think we should keep our given names! Tough question, but curious to know what you think! :)

  2. Talofa lava Chris!

I agree thinking of another name is hard when your parents gave you that name. It just ends up in a special place in your heart.

    Keep up the great work!

  3. Malo e lelei Chris! This was a really good take on this activity, and I agree. I love my name and it's a piece of who I am. I wouldn't want to change it, but if I did I know it would be "Hevani". It's Tongan for Heaven. It's almost just as special to me, and you can find out more on my blog post. Good job!

  5. Hi Chris,
Well done on this activity. I also wouldn't really want to change my name. I quite like the name Alex and might keep it even if I was able to change it. My name is also special to me because it is what everyone I know calls me. Whats a name that you may think about changing to?
