Reef System
In Australia there is the Great Barrier Reef. Which is the biggest coral reef system in the world. For most of its existence it was all healthy, and safe ecosystem. But for the past thirty years it has became bleached and the colours are all faded. Big chunks of the ecosystem have been damaged by tourist, cyclones, or new kind of species. So the Australian Government spends 200 millions dollars every year on the Great Barrier Reef to keep it safe. So they have created a donation to help support and repair the Great Barrier Reef. So for this activity I had to come up with three ideas to help the Great Barrier Reef:
- Posters
- Advertisements
- Persuasive Speeches
Polluted River
For this activity I had to find two rivers in New Zealand that are being polluted. Also I had to tell facts about those rivers such as what river is it? Where is the river? and How is it being cleaned? The two rivers I found were Wairua River and Tukituki River. Wairua river is in the North Island and there is a group that is trying to clean the water. The Tukituki River is in Hawks Bay, and the Green Party is going to clean it if next year they are elected as government.
- Wairua River
- Tukituki River
Too Much Fish!
For this activity I had to talk about if I agreed or disagreed on the rule of paying 100,000 dollars just because you fished to much fish in one area. I am not sure on the idea. I do think that you should not fish a lot of fish in one area. Or that area would be endangered of fish. But I don't think you have to pay a 100,000 dollar fine.
Picture Perfect
For this activity I had to pick one out of three selfies or photos and trying to predict what happened in the selfie. I also learn that in Canada there is the biggest waterfall on earth. It is called Niagara Falls.
I think what happened in the selfie or photo was that they won something. I can tell because each of them have a medal around their neck. It also might be in a stadium. I think its in a stadium because they could've won a sports game. It also looks like they are in New Zealand. I think they are in New Zealand because some of them look Maori. It also looks like they are sweating. I think that because you can see sweat on their forehead.
Devils Bath New Name
For this activity, I had to come up with three - five names for Rotorua's Devil Bath. Devil Bath is a geothermal (heat from earth) pool. It is green, or neon and is a pool of stinky water. The Devil Bath is also in Wai - O - Tapu Thermal Wonderland. The names I have came up with are:
Natures Vomit *
Stinky Heat from Earth
Muddy Nature

Helicopters, Boats, and Foot
For this activity, I had to imagine that I had the chance to visit Milford Sound by boat, foot (walking) or air (helicopter). I had to pick one of those options. I would go on foot, because I want to explore more closely. It could also be a good exercise. It would also be amazing for me to be on it, instead of a birds eye view. I also learned a cool fact about Milford Sound. There was a big piece of ice (glacier) that melted and made the river.

Colossal Squid Problem
LI: to do a math problem
For one of the activities for the Summer Learning Journey I learned some things about the Colossal Squid. The Colossal Squid weighs approximately 500 kilograms. We have one in New Zealand at Te Papa Museum. So the activity was a math problem. The problem was: is that there is a 500 kg squid that had to be moved. So the average adult can carry 25 kg, and the average kid can carry 15 kg. How much kids and adults do you need to carry the 500 kg squid.
So how I got my answer was by adding 25 then 15 over and over, until I got 500.
25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 + 15 + 25 = 505
So my total was 13 adults, and 12 kids.

Local Delicacy
LI: to retell a recipe
For this activity we had to pick a favourite food, and find the recipe and retell it. My favourite food is Fried Chicken. Fried Chicken is my favourite food is because my mother made it when I was young. And it was amazing, I ate a lot of the chicken.

Night Owls or Early Risers?
LI: to talk about who is a Night Owl or Early Riser?
For this activity I had to talk about who is an Early Riser (wakes up early) or a Night Owl (stays up late) in my family. I am a Early Riser and a Night Owl. I sleep pretty late and I wake up pretty early. My Mum is a Night Owl, then in the morning she can barely wake up. My Dad is an Early Riser, he got this habit from work. He has to go early, now in the holidays he still wakes up really early. Then lastly my little sister. She is a Night Owl. She can barely wake up at the morning.
Stranger than Fiction
LI: to talk about plants
For this activity I went on a list of plants, and I had to pick two from the list. Then I had to write three similarities and three differences. The two I picked were the Venus Flytrap (also known as Dionaea Muscipula) and the White Baneberry (also known as Actaea Pachypoda). I've picked the Venus Flytrap because I have learnt about it before, and I also picked the White Baneberry because it looks harmless but when you learn about it, its harmful.
Similarities:
Both are somewhat harmful
They're both plants
They're both found in wet places
Differences:
Venus Flytrap is carnivorous, White Baneberry is not
They are found in different places
White Banberry is taller

Surfs Up!
LI: to talk about Summer Activities
For this activity I had to talk about what was my favourite summer activity. My favourite summer activity is to play with my kitten, its my favourite because she's so cute playing with. She is really adorable to play with.
Mighty Mangrove
LI: to describe someone who is strong and tough
For this activity I had to describe who is strong and tough. I think my Dad is mentally strong and tough. If he's going to finish something, he's going to finish it. He helps the family even if he's tired. My Dad is also amazing at multitasking. But he's also strong physically. He has to move really heavy parts for engineering: metal, thick wood, and more.

Weaving a Tall Tale
LI: to talk about if I would like to or not weave flaxes
On my blog, I had to tell whether or not I would like to try flax weaving. I had to say if it interested me? I also had to tell why or why not? I would like to try to flax weaves because I can learn something new. With this new skill I learned I could try and practise like weaving different stuff. Like weaving a fish made out of flax.

Going, going gone
In New Zealand it is amazing. It has many different cultures, religions, and race. They are accepted and are treated equally in New Zealand. It is also a pretty busy in New Zealand but also simple. It is a really nice place to live in. It also has amazing structures for example like the Sky Tower. New Zealand is a nice, vibrant, and relaxing place to visit. It is really mostly sunny and cloudy, but also can have the hardest rains.
LI: to write a post about New Zealand
The third activity for day five was to write about a post before New Zealand was drowned because of Global Warming. We had to write about how it was like in New Zealand. We also found out that some scientists discovered that some cities are going to be sinked in to the water because of Global Warming.

Living On The Edge
Dear Mum,
Are you having a good time because I am. It's pretty boring though because it's really cold, and dry. Also treeless. It looks like some people have been logging all day. But it’s really cool and amazing because I get to see new species or animals I have never heard about. It’s really amazing, I hope one day we can go together.
LI: to write a letter to family member or friend about experience in Tundra
This week one of the activities for the Summer Learning Journey was to imagine being taken to Tundra for a school field trip. Then you had to write a letter to a friend or family member about your experience in Tundra. I chose to send it to my Mum. Also did you know that Tundra is dry and cold, and completely treeless. Also the average temperature of Tundra is 280C?
Towering Timbers
LI: to talk about Loggers
The first activity for week 1 day 5 was about loggers. Some people like logging trees because it makes money, and makes a living for them. But some people don't like it because it is destroying the environment and some animals have to leave their homes. I don't like loggers because:
- We are destroying the environment
- Animals that live in trees have to a new home

Pancakes and Maple Syrup?
LI: to retell a recipe
This week one of the activities was to pick a favourite food and tell the recipe. My favourite food is a pasta salad it is really easy to make. But it is cold because its Summer. So you get some pasta, and put some eggs on it. Then add some corn, then broccoli. Later put some Italian herbs then eat.
Scaling New Heights
LI: ask questions
One of the activities for the Summer Learning Journey was to imagine interviewing Sir Edmund Hillary, and ask him five questions. - What made you want to climb Mt Everest?
- How long did it take to the top?
- Did you exercise for this?

It also is a really big and busy city, but also enjoyable.Favourite Facts About New Zealand
LI: to learn more about New Zealand
This week for the Summer Learning Journey I first read a story about Maui fishing up the North Island, with a magical hook from his grandmothers jawbone. So after that we went on a site and had to find our favourite facts about New Zealand. My Favourite three are:
It was the first major nation to have universal suffrage. In 1893 all male and female citizens are legally allowed to vote. I picked this fact because it was a major event and both gender in New Zealand had equal rights.
New Zealanders are also called kiwis but kiwi is not a fruit. It is New Zealand’s native flightless bird. I also picked this as a favourite because we are called Kiwis resembling our native bird.
The official language is English and Maori. I like that we have English in New Zealand as a language because its not that difficult to learn.

This week for Kiwi Sport was the last week. So we first got into partners and did a warm up. A partner had noodles to hold, and the other with gloves keep punching. We punched ten times, one burpy, punch twenty times, another burpy, and we kept doing that until fifty punches.
So then we got to learn a new combo that included defence, and a counterattack. So it was: Jab, Cross, Left Hook, Guard, Right Uppercut, Left Hook. The defence we learned that was in that combo was Guard which was being in your rock position but just your arms are covering your head. The counterattack we learned there was Guard, the Right Uppercut, Left Hook. We did one round of that for two minutes.
Our second combo we learned was: Jab, Jab, Cross, Bridge, Cross. The defence we learned in that combo was Bridge which was just moving back to keep distance with your opponent. The counterattack was Bridge, the cross. We did one round of that for two minutes.
Our last combo we learned was: Jab, Cross, Left Hook, Roll, then Left Hook. The defence we learned in that combo was Roll, which was to squat down the come up in a U shape. The counterattack we learned in that combo was Roll then Left Hook.

The last video was one thousand's subtraction. In each video we had to say the answer in three languages. The three languages I did were Spanish, French, and Te Reo Maori.

Find, Draw, Animate, Act
LI: to learn a whole bunch of new words
This week for Reading we learned new words. We had to learn the definitions and out of those words we had to Draw, Find, Animate, or Act them out. It had to describe the word we were doing. Before we started on our DLO we first had an example we made. The four words we did were Thwart, Opulent, Encroach, and Fetid. Thwart means to prevent someone from accomplishing something. Opulent means the comfort of luxury. Encroach means invading in someones property, space, or territory. Fetid means an unpleasant smell.
