Starry Night

LI: to complete the Summer Learning Journey
For this activity, we had to to select one of the pictures on the site and then study or observe it closely. On our blog, we had to describe the painting in detail. We had to say what we saw, and write down as much as we could and in detail. This task was based off of famous scientist or theorist who came up with theories and told us what we know of the world and how it works. They come up with these theories by observing closely.

  1. The Starry Night is an oil on canvas by the Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh. Painted in June 1889, it describes the view from the east-facing window of his asylum room at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, just before sunrise, with the addition of an ideal village. It has been in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City since 1941, acquired through the Lillie P. Bliss Bequest. Regarded as among Van Gogh's finest works, The Starry Night is one of the most recognized paintings in the history of Western culture. I saw it when I visted New York in 2005. Keep blogging Chris, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep up your learning over the school break!

  2. Kia ora Chris! How are you doing? It’s still windy! Hope the weather gets better?

I love this activity! It’s all about painting! Van Gogh’s “Starry Starry Night” is one of my favourite pieces of art! I replicated it on a jeans pocket! It was super fun! I really appreciate your effort in your observation and description about this painting. It’s great to see how much attention you paid to the art - it’s really beautiful.
Have you looked at any other pieces of his work? Ka pai on all your effort! Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

    Keep up the blogging!

  4. Hello Chris! Wow, I love the description and detail you used to describe what's going on in the painting! "Starry Night" is a beautiful painting, whether it tells a story or not. Every art style is unique and different, which makes them even more interesting to me. I appreciate every art piece, even if it's the Blank Canvas art! Are you into art yourself? Nice job!

  5. Hey Chris,
I like your description on Vincent Van Gogh's 'The starry night' painting. I think that the use of lots of adjectives made your description great. What is your personal opinion on this painting? I thought that it was pretty good and definitely something hard to create. Keep up the good work.
